First shots with new Canon 40D.

My first shots with new camara, shot in macro mode with 100mm macro lens.
I know I need to work on lighting, Any thoughts ?
Any help would be great . Staci you out there? Tell me what to do

This was taken with the Canon light ring flash. First is with flash only with no photoshop and second is with adjustments. Do you think its to dark? Or do I got to always be making adjustments with photoshop?

Pegg: Took these in just the macro mode. Have just started to take my pics in the manuel mode with the setting of: Shutter speed 200, fstop 11 and iso 100. Also shooting with a canon macro light ring.
Love the light ring!! I'm so glad I got it .
The seated dime was taken in the manuel mode with those settings, I think I may get a little more detail than in the macro mode.
