Retired in May and bought my first metal detector in August. Hit the beach Thursday for seven hours and came up with somewhere between $11.00-$12.00 in clad, metal cars, golf ball, spoon, fishing sinkers, 925 ring (looks old and I know nothing about the stones), fake wedding ring set, and some other stuff. I just throw it all in a bucket and look at it when I get home. My wife started in on the treasure while I hit the couch for some rest time. I have found 3-4 silver rings, a 10K gold ring and a few wheat pennies but was still looking for my first silver coin. Wife tells me that she thinks I found something good. "Yeah right," was my reply. She said, "well it is dated 1899." I shot up off the couch to see my first silver coin--a barber quarter.

Well big congrats to you! I have been metal detecting for about 5 years and only have 1 Barber coin found this year, a 1913 dime and never a Barber Quarter!! You look like one of those metal detecting commercials come to life, keep it up. Heck I just found my first SLQ a week ago, a no date of course.

What a way to start your silver collection. I've been hunting 4+ years and finally found my first Barber coin of any sort (a dime).

This is a good way to start, because now you are hooked!!

Good luck in the future with your new hobby.

On my first outing, I found a barber dime followed by a walking liberty half. Took me 4 months to find another siver coin. Good job.

good job there!...your quarter is also an "O" mint, from New Orleans. Must be an older beach I'd dig every target, quarter is in nice shape too. F-VF, too bad for the corossion from the wet.
