Finished up a business trip of 21 days straight this weekend, what a long week that was, LOL! Enjoyed a few days off along with Veteran’s day and caught a nasty cold. I could feel it coming on, had two hours to detect thinking it could be the last hunt around the house for a long cold time. Got to the field just as a snow storm arrived and could not talk myself out of the hunt but I was dressed for it. Was a snow/rain mix at first and I was hoping it got a bit colder so it would just snow. Brrr, watch what you ask for, it dropped a few degrees and the wind picked up and I got my snow I asked for. Should have asked for a gold coin, LOL. Detected for 1.5 hours and made a few finds. The area I detected is directly in the middle of the field, you can see a line where that part of the field rises up slightly, this was a cattle crossing hundreds of years ago. Beyond it is a house to the left where a castle once stood, that house is partly built over the foundations of the castle, I was invited to see it and have pictures somewhere, just a cellar wall that looks part old and part new. In front of the house was a large Medieval pond for raising fish, smaller pond still exists near the house.
Seemed to be a lot of iron in the field, as I suspected, ox shoes, only dug one then got picky since it was mostly mud in the holes. Here’s the finds, a pewter button and possibly a General Service or German post office button with a horn on it, horn is the symbol of the German post office.
7 crusty coins I found spanning from 1850 to 1950. Had a fun hunt in the snow. I went to the doctor this morning and was written off sick the rest of the week. This is the third cold/flu I have contracted in the past 2 years from a knucklehead work colleague that would not keep his germs at home, I am the 5th victim from one individual in the past week. Keep your germs at home under lock and key people, LOL! HH, Mike
