Got out today with my friend Dan and spent most of the time at a new site where we found a few musketballs and flat buttons. At the end of the day I wanted to make a short stop at my coin spill site to see if I could get my new GPX-5000 to settle down as I've been having problems with setting it up. At this site far away from any electrical interference I could set it up hot and run quiet and stable. After about 5 minutes of slowly passing the huge 18" mono across that small area of the cornfield I got a nice solid hit. Finally got a target out after digging down about 14", and to my delight a nice looking cut piece from a pillar style one reale came to light. This was big as it gave me a renewed confidence in my new machine that I had been lacking. I left after that point but plan to go back soon and grid that area out and go real slow to make sure I find them all. This makes 15 pre-1830 coins to come from this tiny spot and 7 of them are spanish silver along with one bust dime.
