First actuall run with the new Explorer SE Pro,1890's era farmhouse that i have never detected, had about an hour or so and found an old copper spoon about 10 inches down right along the side of the house. Iron everywhere, nails and boards layin all over the place, When the copper signal rang out i hadnt heard my threshold for probly 45 seconds but it came thru solid and repeated even with the iron trash. Pretty sure it was already broke because the break doesnt look clean or fresh at all and i know i didnt hit it with the shovel. Also found a more modern day spoon probly a 2 feet away, and this copper reed valve of some kind. Anyone know what years copper spoons were common for? i have no idea and cant read any writing on it, it has scripting engraved into it but you cant really tell from the pics. Really loving the explorer, just havent been able to find any old coins yet but havent really got out much, just my trashy yard and now this old farmhouse, soon as the weather straightens out i will be logging a lot more hours on this awesome machine. Thanks, Sam

It looks like you've gotten that machine to working just fine. Next thing you know, coins and jewels..

Made it out for a bit after work tonight, just tried the yard where i live again. Found my first non clad coin. Nothin special, just a 58 wheatie. Found 2 clad dimes and a penny. Im starting to be able to really tell the difference in the small good tones. I also found a copper cup, never seen any before. Its a smooth copper cup but its been smashed. The bottom reads Mardis
Gras Festivewere. Made in USA. I have no clue what its for or if its just a drinking cup. It was about 6 inches down and made a very good tone. Found an old aluminum 1 teaspoon measuring spoon and a couple square nails. Nothing to get excited about but i am hooked on this hobby now for sure. I always enjoyed the idea of it, did lots of research but just never found much but junk with the bounty hunter and my dads whites 6000 series. It amazes me the way the explorer can seperate iron from good targets, I can be digging a 4 inch diameter plug and pull up a penny from 4 inches with two pieces of iron trash in the same plug. Its pretty impressive. I really dont use the screen much but just listen for the high pitch tones. One thing i find handy about the screen is when you use pinpoint mode, the machine goes into all metal therefore if your using conductive sounds, iron can sound the same as a good target in all metal. Therefore its nice to be able to glance at the screen if theres multiple targets within a very small area of one another. Basically to make sure your pinpointing the right target and not a piece of iron thats beside the good target that was just producing a null in normal mode. just something i learned, I have a lot more to learn but feel i am catching on fairly quick . Cant wait to hit the local fairgrounds and parks when the weather straightens out again now that i feel comfortable about cutting plugs in public places. LOL. Thanks for reading, Sam

nice spoon ....congrats !

nice finds and soon you will be pulling better stuff out as you learn your machine. As far as the copper spoon it was most likely a plated spoon.........they use copper alot for this as the plating will adhere to spoon much easier. Keep up the good work!

Nice finds and story!
Won't be long before you dig a heartstopper

Sam, it looks like your figuring it out just fine. I find those music reeds quite often on older sites. I'm thinking they are from the old squeeze boxes. Johnny 8)

I have the same set up. Everytime you go something new will be learned. Good luck and have fun. There are some manuels about the explorers. I have read them and learned alot of good info. life is good. dave

I'm sure there's more good stuff out there. Good luck!

You have done well for a first outing.. :occasion14:
The reed is from an organ...
Good Luck Out There...
