Well, To be honest it was more of a 5 minute hunt and 55 minutes digging. My 6 year old and I decided to do a little detecting in the front yard tonight. About 5 minutes in we got a zinc cent reading that over loaded the detector. I had to lift the coil 6 inches off the ground for it to read. This is what we saw on our first scoop.

We cleaned out what we could see and still had a strong signal. We scaped away the edges and more coins popped out.

When it was all said and done we had dug 317 memorials(moslty zinc) from an area not quite 2 square feet in size. My daughter was thrilled. She had to upgrade her "Treasure Carrier" three times in order to hold them all. I'm almost positive she already had treasure hunting in her blood. After her excitement tonight I no longer have any doubt.

Looks like you found a zinc hole!

Your daughter seems pleased with the treasure!

That's what it's all about.

Congrats!

awesome experience for your daughter...shes got the bug now... congrats

Abraham Zincoln. Wow! Your daughter will never forget it. Priceless. HH

Nice penny cache. You have to wonder the story behind that. Was there any sign of a container or broken piggy bank? I hit a driveway that was about 40' long made of caliche and pea gravel, and found all of this. I thought the people just hated pocket change. Way to go, and now you have your daughter hooked too. Keep em coming! By the way, it took me alot longer than 5 minutes. Go back after it rains again and you will probably find even more.

How do you expain that many getting there?

Nice find :)

I love it when kids come up to "help" me when I'm hunting. I'm sure that find must have hooked her. Better than the find is the time with your daughter, a real treasure experience.

You couldn't have planned that better. ;D Very fun hunting with your young kids.

No signs of any container that could be associated with the coins. We found a few pieces of an old crock but we were digging about 20 feet from the old cellar that has been there for over 100 years. We find pieces of crockery and jars almost everytime we dig a hole on that side of the yard. The coins were right next to a huge lilac bush. I assume it must have been some kids buried treasure at one time. Kind of odd to find that many coins and not have a single nickel, dime or quarter. I'd say less then 5% of them were even copper.

DKW,
That's the largest pocket spill I've ever seen! Amazing.
Your daughter is a cutie. She's hooked now. ;D
Congrats to you two,
MM

Great pic and story! I bet it seemed even more like treasure to your daughter! 3 bucks would have seemed like it to me when I was a kid. But I'd be psyched to find that many pennies in one hole anyway, awesome find man!
