For a 171 years old The Lady doesn't look to bad except for the Hole in Her Head

Gary and I got out a couple days last week and did pretty good. But boy is the ground getting hard to dig in. We hunted several places.

I found several nice coins including a pretty nice 1836 Large Cent. I also found a 1942 Washington Silver Quarter, 3 Mercury dimes 1936 D, 1926 & 1944. A 1943 S War Nickel and a 1930 Buffalo Nickel. Also pulled out 9 Wheat penny's 1935, 1939, 1941,1941,1950,
1950 D,1951 D, 1951 D, 1957 D. I also found a I think Navy Air Corp Tie Clip and Tweetie Bird. I forgot to mention, I found 15 nickels before I found my first Buffalo and a Timex watch.

Gary found 4 Mercury Dimes 1918,1929 D,1936 & 1944, 3 Roosevelt's 1948 D, 1960, & 1963. He also found 2 buffalo's both of them 1936. He also found 2 War Nickels
1943 S & 1944 D. He found a really nice 925 Italian Silver Necklace, a heart shaped ear ring and another silver ear ring and an old pocket knife.

Nice day of hunting. Too bad about the holed large cent. Still looks real nice though. Good going.

I HATE when people make pendants >:(
Cool finds anyway, well done and thanks for sharing.

Nice stuff. Looks like merc heaven. ;D

Large Cent looks in great shape(other than the hole).

1930 Buffalo looks great! Most of the ones I get with dates are either 1936 or 1937.

Nice finds. The coin digs in your area have a very nice patina.

Maybe someday I'll find a LC Denny...until then I can continue to search, bouyed by knowing that you're not that far away....so if they dropped them there, they mighta dropped em here.

Funny how many coins were holed. I've heard (like all of you) that pockets weren't used so they were strung and worn.
Two things that makes we wonder....
If the string broke, there should be more multi-holed coins found in the same hole and...
I have never seen (in a period movie) anyone wearing their coins around their neck.

Great digs as always.

Gorgeous even with the hole.
Oh those beautiful Mercs!
Congrats on some great finds.

Dang, ringfinder, what a great group of finds. I'd take a holed large cent in THAT condition any day over the worn ones. Gives it character and I could never sell a find like that anyway!

Now, don't get too excited (I'm not an expert), but I believe that you've got a early 19th century Tweetie pin there. I always get excited when I find an 1800's coin, because that means the spot I'm hunting is in the right era for Tweetie pins. Still haven't found one, but I'm holding out hope. You just might want to get that checked out....

Thanks for the reply, I doubt the tweetie pin is that old, it has a battery in the back and I think maybe the eyes light up. Hope you have much success at your 1800's site.

Danimal, I know that there are better finds up your way than a 1836 LC. I'd love to find a Draped Coin or an old copper, maybe someday, I'm getting close.
But I'm still not complaining, my oldest coin so far is a 1717 Munday Thursday Coin from England and I found it here in NW Ohio.

I really think the coin was holed and worn because that was the year the person was born. I have found many good finds at this site and hope to find more. They are going to tear the house down and when they do, I'll be right behind the backhoe!!!

Thanks for your comments also. I found a 1853 LC last year and it was in almost the same condition as the one I just found. Some of the LC's I have found you can hardley read the dates on, they are just worn so bad. Guess it's just the luck of the draw.

Bob, I'd take a 1937 Buffalo anyday if it was a 3 legged one!!! Keep looking they are out there. I found one many years ago. Good Luck

Thanks to everyone who read and enjoyed Gary's and My post. The ground is really getting hard here in Ohio. It won't be long and I'll be detecting in the lakes and ponds around here. Good Luck to you all, hope your detecting finds are great also.

HH and remember, keep the coil to the soil, or when I get in the water, keep it on the bottom. Ringfinder
