Interesting last few days here.
Thank you to everyone who shared artifacts and info.
I figure I'll add some a bit out of the ordinary artifacts to kinda keep the theme. ..feel free to post your shell artifacts.

That hand held piece looks more like a stone for paint. Maybe for painting the face. JMO

That could be rock.. but I'm leaning more towards grinding up a highly caffeinated type of Ilix plant for brewing as a drink.
I found several cup/dippers there.
It was a small seasonal fishing camp.

What type would only need that small bit? The holes arent very big and looks just big enough to put some pigment in. Either way it is a very nice piece. You can see it was worked and isnt natural. I would treasure it if I had found it. Maybe one day you will have somebody to pass it down to through the family. I know nobody in my family gives a rats about my artifacts.

The holes aren't the grinding surface rock. The larger ground down impression in the center is..." the part that is the same width as the mano"....
The holes are natural in that type of stone.

Everything was broken this day but still a fun hunt.
Lots of broken fossils and a whelk shell adze.

The black drink? They drank it here. I do not remember what it was though.

Yup.. "black drink"

The Yaupon Holly.
"Ilex Vomitoria"
Doesn't that sound appetizing?
This is the plants native range.. though there are similar species outside of this.
It was one of many trade items that traveled the St Johns River in my area.

Here is a very interesting shell cup.
Keep.. "black drink" " caffeine" and "coffee stains" in mind and imagine lips put in the same place and leaving marks like your favorite coffee cup.
