Minelab EXPLORER SE
I had about 30 minutes to hunt yesterday morning so I went back to the yard I got the most silver out of. I found a couple of memorial pennies then hit the 1918 mercury dime. It was about 8 inches deep. I was walking back to my truck and got another good signal and dug a 1946 penny. I turned off my detector and walked back to my truck. When I got there the dime was gone. I usually wear my belt with a pouch but it was hot and I was only going to hunt for about 30 minutes. I stuck the coins in my pocket and when I got back to the truck I had all three pennies but no Merc. Why couldn't I have lost a Memorial penny. I am going back next week to see if I can find it. Has anyone else done something like this.

I kinda did that one time ~ years ago, when I first started detecting. I was detecting around an old house in Junction City Oregon ~ my son was with me ~ at the time he was about 2 or 3 years old (he's 16 now) ~ I dug a token thingy that I assumed was some cheesy 1976 bicentenial item because all I could see on it was a big 76. I handed it to my son to look at it for me to give him something to do. After a few minutes I asked for it back and he didn't have it! I had to re-search the yard to find it ~ and I did find it. When I got home I cleaned up the token thingy and realized it was an old 76 gas station advertizing medallion dated 1933! It was actual TREASURE ~ not some cheesy 1976 bicentenial junk!

Now I make sure to keep any important treaures I find in a zipped up part of the pack I wear ~ safe & sound until I get home . . . . . and accidently drop 'em down the garbage disposal! LOL ~ just kidding!

Sorry about the loss of your coin. It seems like the older we get the worse C.R.S. (Can't remember ****) becomes. Hope that your re-search of the area turns it up.

Knock on wood and thank God, I never lost any of my finds. I am to worried about losing them, I check and recheck for them and hold them in my change pocket most the times.

Be careful,

Keep @ It and HH!!

I've done worse...I've lost two gold nuggets that I've found detecting in the desert. They weren't that big but one of them was special because I found it for my wife for our 1st wedding anniversary and made a pendant out of it for her.

I read your post about swallowing the Rosie. That is one funny post. All the replies are classic.

That happened to me at the last Div. I dug a nice eagle button and was showing it to a couple buddies. About 5 minutes later Shilo Digger was talking to me so I was going to show him the button but.... it wasn't in my pouch! I walked back to the spot I thought I was at when I was showing it previously, low and behold I found it in the dirt. Apparently I dropped it putting it back in my pouch. I can tell you I was pretty ticked off! After I found it the 2nd time I realized how lucky I was to find it twice. Good luck finding that dime, I bet you will recover it. Tim

I carry the bottle my dog's worm pills came in :P with some cotton balls inside
A film canister would work too
It's harder to lose a larger object
