I had about 30 minutes to hunt yesterday morning so I went back to the yard I got the most silver out of. I found a couple of memorial pennies then hit the 1918 mercury dime. It was about 8 inches deep. I was walking back to my truck and got another good signal and dug a 1946 penny. I turned off my detector and walked back to my truck. When I got there the dime was gone. I usually wear my belt with a pouch but it was hot and I was only going to hunt for about 30 minutes. I stuck the coins in my pocket and when I got back to the truck I had all three pennies but no Merc. Why couldn't I have lost a Memorial penny. I am going back next week to see if I can find it. Has anyone else done something like this.

I lost a dog tag that was dated 1954. Found it, took a picture of it and all the finds, then I lost the thing somewhere...Who knows...at least I have a picture of it. Nothing more aggravating than a treasure hunter losing his found treasure...I think it's "Oldtimers" setting in... ;D jgas Oh yeh, lost my pinpointer the other day too...I think I left it at the farm I was hunting... :tard:

I almost lost a 1918 merc when Kirk placed it on the bumper of my car. I drove it for awhile before I knew what was going on. It was still there when I stopped.

That's too bad. I haven't lost anything, but with me it's hard to. I probably feel my pocket or take the find out a dozen times to make sure it's still there. OCD I guess :icon_jokercolor:

When I found my first Walker half, I walked back to my truck and put it on the passenger side floor mat..there was no way I was gonna misplace that sucker!

Too bad about your dime, at least it wasn't a very valuable loss..you may still find it if you retrace your steps.

Good luck, and if you never find it, just work on finding another one!

LOL, my buddy found an IH penny on top of the grass before, and I found a Buffalo nickel on top of the ground too. Both were at different sites. They both had to of been dropped by a MD'er. LOL

You should be able to retrace your steps and find it.

I have not had it happen to me but I know others who have had it happen....

One time I showed the coin to my son who placed it somewhere near the shifter while the car was moving - the silver dime then slide down into the shift mechanism. Fortunately there was enough room to get a probe with a little gum on it in there to get it out.

I'm sure you will find that back, coins on top give off a nice signal. I'm always checking my pocket too when I find something, just to see if it is still there. HH

The first button I found was a CW eagle. I put it up where it wouldn't get lost. That was 25 years ago and I still can't find that rascal.

Sorry to hear about your fisfortune....you will find it.

As for me losing anything....just my mind! :icon_scratch:

Good luck on the recovery and HH!

Sorry to hear about your loss, buddy. There's a good chance it's still kicking around that park somewhere, just waiting for you.

One thing I did that has helped me "keep it all together" was making a Good Stuff Box. What I did was go to a sports card store and buy a clear plastic box used to hold cards, the kind that opens from one side and then snaps back together. Look for one that only holds about 30 or so cards, it should be about 1/2" thick.

I cut up two pieces of foam-rubber to fit into either side of the box, then glued them into place. The box is small enough that you can slide it easily into your hip or back pocket. When you're hunting and come across something nice, just pop open the box, stash your goodies, and keep in hunting! It keeps then from moving around and getting damaged, and the box is really easy to keep tabs on.

Of course, if you do manage to lose the box, then you'll lose all your good finds for the day... :-[

i found a nice rosie one time, then i swallowed it. got it back though :D

Dman,

Bring a couple of small pill bottles with you when you go out hunting. Place your silvers in one pill bottle, and your wheaties/coppers in another. All the clad can just go into your pouch/pockets. That's how I do it. I've never lost a good coin find doing this.

I was at a forest preserve hunting with my son and found a 1920 wheatie probably in AU shape.... Because my son was with me it was special. Noticed it was gone when I got to car... Searched for half an hour to find it...no luck... >:( :(

I started to carry a pill bottle last year because the White's pouch really does not have a secure area.... I did not like the pill bottle...

Someone sent me a Minelab finds pouch... Big thanks.....I love the thing! Very sturdy.... several compartments and a small zip area to secure the best finds.... :)

When I was a teen back in the late 70's, we moved from Omaha to Minnesota. After the move I realized that my 1917-D Type II Quarter that I had found with my detector back in Omaha was gone. I searched high and low for that quarter. That will always remain a mystery to me. I feel your pain.

Dang-man, Dman, aint dat de way it go?

Keep safe and keep lookin'...
