Re: Found a RECORD silver dime "Cache"!!!!!!!!

I just saw this thread today. Sorry to be so slow to respond.

Congrats man. You actually found what most of us can only dream about! I'd have had no hesitation whatsover in posting that find to TreasureNet, it looks absolutely legitimate to me. WAY TO GO!!!!

Let's see, face value of $100.00+ multiplied by the going rate of silver, that's a nice chunk of change. Around $1,100.00? Way cool!!!

Congrats on the horde of coins... just wanted to mention something in regards to overloaded singles.. dig em dig em... i had a similiar situation happen to me a couple of years back and i dug,, it was not a horde of coins... but a beautiful gold and silver bolo from the early 1900's. it was a nice size piece of jewerly and rung my ears so bad i had a ear infection for days on end... just when i thought it was a large piece of iron it happen to be otherwise.. sure wish i still had it so i could post a pic.. but i sold it and got about $400.00 for it.. thats what happens when your trying to put food on the table for 4 children... i also happened upon a couple of turn of the century womens necklaces with pendants in the same location.. one pendant in particular had 16 3mm size pieces of jade going in a circular pattern the pendant was a flower.. and in the middle of the flower was a 10x8mm piece of jade.. set in silver.. so i say dig those obnoxious singles. you never know.......

Congrats xXx for making it to the best of TNet catagory for this find. I remember reading it way back then, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. How's the Blackbeard hunting coming along? Send me a message.

Due to criticism of great finds I had planned not to post this find from yesterday. But, I am so excited about it I have to show you.
So, yesterday evening, I decited to spend an hour or so detecting at an old abandoned house that I had gotten permission to hunt a long time ago. It was an open invitation to hunt at any time.
I'm poking around with a nice haul of clad from the grass driveway and I worked around to the back where I had never hunted before.
I'm in what looked to be an old garden when I got an Overload hit on my MXT. I pretty much dig everything anyway, and being an odd place for a large piece of aluminum siding or something I decited to dig it. I had about given up on it thinking I had a hot rock or something when I hit metal at about 8". I thought it was just junk at first. After I saw it was an old metal box, like a kids lunch box, I started to get excited. It was pretty rusty.
As it came out it was extremely heavy, letting me know there is something in it. I quickly opened it up to find a dirty towel. Inside the towel was 1,084 SILVER DIMES!!!! That's $108.40 FACE VALUE!!!! The oldest one is 1916 and they go all the way up to 1964 but stop there. It was as if someone knew that the silver was going to be of value and buried them for later.
I spent all last night seperating them by date. Funny, and curious, thing is that there is a bunch of each year except for 1955 which there were none at all. I can't figure that out. Any ideas?
xXx
in 1955 they minted
12.450.181 1955
1955D 13.959.000
1955s 18.510.000
these amounts are far less than the majority of dates you have
1954 minted 106.397.000
1956 minted 108.640.000
so you can see why you didnt get any 55s
hope this helps
1955 minted the least amount of dimes in the rosies
