airborne80, are you talking about these kind of shells?
if you are, yes these are ornaments
the holes are for mounting purposes
sometimes they have a slot cut in them which was done by a knife
why don't you post a picture please?

Wow! They seem to be the exact ones that I have seen. I will head out tonight after work and again tomorrow morning and see if I can find some. Thanks brother... I will post a pic as soon as I get one. Your other items are awesome... as usual.

Nice finds there Larson ,... I'm also one who love's just staring at your dirt !! As a screen-saver its O.K. ,... but I'm thinking Wall-paper ,.. !!
Looks as if you found 2 brass tinkers/ rolled brass beads there , and you've shown other trade items in the past . Have you ever given it a thought , to get a metal detector ? It 's maybe your obilgation,... no,.., your duty to save these metal artifacts from the elements . although ,.. the brass items look good/ stable ,.. but what about the iron items ,.... they need to be saved , . Anyway a few pieces of trade silver in your collection could be "educational" ,... just a thought !!

the 2 pieces are copper bangles used on women's dresses and for other ornaments
I have never found anything made from brass
I have several copper points
we also found a copper perforating tool(punch)
when I use a metal detector I am busy finding wire or broken pieces from farm equipment, also fencing staples & wire

larson your site is just amazing, how early in time is this site? is there water near? How long have you been working your site? and last but not least, what is your ultimate goal? are you going to set up a museum or anything like that. I look for your post every day. Thank you for posting your finds it does help me get out and hunt and teach me for the things to look for. Take care and I hope you dont mind all the questions. thanks JYD, I will post some pretty old points and there is water but I think it used to have more been looking here over twenty yrs
