Hello Everyone
I decided to take the plunge and start using Headphones yesterday
It's like using a new detector, the sounds are totally different, but you sure get a better 'look' into what's down there
I will have to say it makes recovery of signals a lot more time consuming, using the speaker, I can usually dig my target without putting the detector down.
No more digging 150 targets in 3-4 hours :P
I was hunting the 1770 meetinghouse and militia training grounds.
Really soft ground, any metal sinks deep quickly, I opened the sensitivity and scanned the forest in all metal, nothing but recent casings and some lead.
discovered a stone 'Corral', this was full of iron, so I switched to TTF mode.
recovered a heel plate, a 'horn cap' (is this the correct term ?)
And
A Coin
, it's been a while
figured it was a fattie, so I carefully wrapped it in a leaf & headed home.
looks to be an 1860 pointed bust.
just sprayed it with water, dried & dipped in oil.
Toasted, this area is pretty acidic Pine soil.
Whether the scrape came from my shovel or other metal/rocks during recovery I'm not sure, (heck, I'll take the blame
)
I found an 1863 last year in better condition
From what I've read, these are the same alloy (88/12 cupronickle) as the Flying Eagle Cents. they don't look like the same metal to me
must be the different ground conditions.
last photos are also a 'todays find', plucked it off my shoulder after it had gotten a pretty good meal, I squeezed him & he popped like a bubble wrap & squirted blood 3 feet onto the wall
They're out up here in NH with snow still on the ground !
Thanks for looking & Great Digs to All
