Hello everyone!! I am so stoked about this!!! yesterday I went and hunted a private yard that i got permission to hunt and found my first Barber dime(1903) which also happened to be my oldest coin found so far. then today a guy I know asked me to try and find some water and gas lines on a corner lot he owns here in town, I think that I found them for him and he then tells me there was an old boarding house on the property that burned down many years ago and I was more than welcomed to hunt it with my detector. to make a long story short, after about 20-30 minutes I get this shaky quarter signal and I dig a big plug and there on the side was this 1943 Walking Liberty half!!!! it was about 6 inches down and pretty much on it's edge. this is my first half dollar I have found since I started detecting and I am super stoked!!! the elderly lady in a really old house next door to the lot I was detecting was outside walking her little dog, and saw me holding the half up and looking it over, so she came over to see what I had found and she got excited and said "come over to my yard and see if you can find anymore" anyway, I found a ton of 1940's and 1950's wheat pennies, and some dimes and quarters(all 1965-1967) in here front yard then it started getting dark on me so she said to come back tomorrow and search the rest of the yard real good!!!! she also said I could keep whatever I find. Very nice lady!!!! anyway, I'll post what I find tomorrow, tomorrow evening.
p.s. she told me that at the house where she grew up, that here father had buried a jar of coins in the garden when she was a kid (she watched him bury the jar) and when he went back to get them, he couldn't find them. she is going to take me there and show me where the house was and also where the garden spot was!!!! wish me luck.
Hello, everyone, I just wanted to update the original post with some more pics and a few more details. first off, as far as the jar of coins goes it is goinf to be next to impossible to find. the turns out the house is gone and the land is completely overgrown to the point a person could not even walk thru it let alone swing a detector. So now that I know where it is I will just keep an eye on it and if it ever gets cleared or something I'll try to find it( the lady said she doesn't want any of it except for a maybe one or two coins for keepsakes from it if I can ever find it) I went the next day to where I found the half dollar and spent a good 6 hours covering every square inch of that ground and here is what I found: a 14k wedding band, a silver quarter, some wheat pennies, an Illinois tax token of some kind, a token for 5 cents from the old bocce ball club here in town, and the rest is pictured. p.s. the barber dime is the first one I ever found, I found it a day before I found the half and I just wanted to show a pic of it.
