I found this coin or while fishing on the foothills of the himalayas in India near Darjeeling (the place where we get our morning cup of tea from) I showed it to a local "expert" and he said that it was from the Maurya Period that is sometime in the second or third century BC.
I will consult a professional on this, but i wanted your advise. Sorry for not being able to post better pictures. The internet connection is terrible here
The first pic ie the one on the top shows a man next to an elephant and the one below it shows a man with a sword probably.
Thanks

Interesting looking coin, definitely looks old...
I did a search, but didn't find anything like it, but I did find a pretty good site for some of India's first coins.
Might come in handy at a later date: http://www.med.unc.edu/~nupam/ancient1.html
Good luck on the ID, & Happy hunting~

I posted my query about the coin to the Reserve Bank of India and guess what.... they replied.
Heres what they had to say

This is a copper coin issued by the Hindu kings of Kashmir some where in 11th -12th centuries AD. This coin has the seated goddess one side and standing king on the other. Usually the issuer's name appears in Nagari, which is not clear on this coin.

Im so damn excited.
