I know this is going to sound dumb but here goes. Where do you guys buy your frames? Do you have others frame your stuff for you or do them yourselves? I have noticed a lot of you on here have very beautiful frames! Another question I have is when you write on your artifacts what kind of pen do you use? I usually keep mine in boxes marked with the place I found them. But my boxes are not a good way to store them I noticed a few broke pieces the other day going thru some. Also are there any good books anyone would recommend about stone tools not points or knives and are there any on just beads ?

And I also have a question about this point from my grandfathers stuff . Where would it be from and what kind is it?

Don't feel bad ! I just asked the same. I can't find a decent case with a reasonable price on it. In plus my finds are not that great!!

Larson, can you buy thicker padding made for these, of do I need to improvise? I really need to frame your gift to me this weekend. It truly deserves a nice, no slip frame. I suppose I could get do some temprapedic foam and paint it. That should work great! I promise I'll have them framed and posted soon. That's one of my next irons out of the fire!!

I buy all my frames from Mike Steele of Steeles Display Cases. Great quality cases and very good prices. He has the Riker Mounts like larson showed you and he also has the really nice wooden trays that lock in various types of wood. I like the dark walnut myself.

Here's a couple of pics and the link. Mike is a great guy to deal with. You can also get just about any color of foam or felt to go inside, just don't put any bone or shell on the foam inserts. It will eventually break down and stick to the pieces.

Thanks reaper. I'm glad you told me about the bone. I have a piece in a nice wooden case made of bone. I have no need to buy as nice of cases as you guys, you can look at my artifacts and tell why. They aren't museum quality by a long shot. Lol! I'll check him out. I have worked hard in finding what I have, and don't want them falling when the frame is lifted. Thanks again my friend!

One more thing, how should I store or display bone? Thanks for the advice.

I like to make my own- I'm cheap that way- 1x lumber is inexpensive- scraps are free, glass can be had for free curbside (don't try to cut tempered glass), hasps and hinges can be re-purposed or bought new- not expensive, and for backing I use any thin, hardboard type of material available. I bought batting and fabric (I used velvet- fancy huh?) from the local fabric store- the batting can be layered up to any thickness you need. And, most importantly- a table saw and miter saw.

I made these kind of goofy. I assembled the boxes- glass and backing- then cut off the top of the box as the lid. It shook the glass so much I thought it would break. I also caught a nail in the upper left corner of the frame in picture three. And it came through the table saw "off" as can be seen on the lower right corner of the lid- should have used the shop table saw instead of my little portable one. But, you don't see that stuff when the lid is closed! Next time I'll dado for the glass and backing, miter the sides to length, cut off the strips for the lid, and then assemble the two halves separately.

I haven't been marking my finds either (I have so few I could take you to exactly where each was found)- India ink or a real nice fine-tipped felt marker?

Liked the tip about spray painting the foam- that little nugget of information may have swayed me to buy one at the Hobby Lobby!

Those cases look really nice. The gorget is a heck of a find. Dang it is bitter sweet to find one like that isn't it? If I were to pull out the table saw and miter saw, I'd probably have a finger or two on display as the final result. Lol! I have a miter saw and table saw, I suppose the only way to learn how to use them, is to use them. If I can keep my self out of the fields and rivers long enough, I think I'll take a shot at this. I'm ADD, so I really have to pay attention to my projects. If I'm not careful, I'll have 15 unfinished projects occupying my house, yard, and place of business. Lol! Thanks for the encouragement!!

Thank u all for helping and thanks for sharing the pics gives me a few ideas on how I want to do mine.

I know what u mean I'm add also and I'm in the same position I have to stay at one thing or ill have a dozen going at once lol

It depends on if you want the type Larson posted or wood. Most craft stores offer display cases. Some cost more than others. I prefer the black ones with the glass like Larson posted. They have pins that will seal the frames after they are shut and they dont cost allot and still look good. You wont have to use glue which is a pain to get off. The black ones come in all different sizes. I got these from a antique store. They didnt cost much. Starting price was $5 and up. I need some more cause I am out.

I put all of my Shell and Bone pieces in trays with felt as the backing. You can buy it very cheaply at WalMart in several different colors.

Thank you for the advice Reaper, I would have never known until my bone pieces looked like a comic book that moths got.

Glad I'm not the only one. It suxx, but I didn't get the "h" added as an initial to my disorder. I'm not only sporadic, but slow as well. Lol! If my project doesn't get done before sun down, it may sit many moons. Finally, just as the moon, I'll cycle back around to the job. It could be a lot worse.

Rock, you got those for $5.00. I'm ashamed of how bad I got robbed. Lol!

Then, I go to place the top over my over populated display and boom! Damn glass came unglued. Thank goodness I didn't have my pipes, gorgets , and Clovis' in there. They are still in the field. Well.... I hope!
