You might want to take another picture with a known sized object such as a coin or ruler.

This could be another example of a fist ring. An early version of the brass knuckles.

That buckle went on the end of a 14th C leather strap, what that strap was used for has hundreds of options.
 

Hey, Frenchjayne2019 - Thanks for your posting & I see YOU are a new member and just joined T-net yesterday - So WELCOME, and because it was dug on the grounds of a medieval chapel tells me that it was not found in the U.S. - so, what country was this found in, if you wish to say? CRUSADER who is one of our "charter members" from England seems to know & dated your "nice" buckle from the 1300's period. Please let us know what other items you find there on future "digs" - Good Luck & Happy Hunting....Thanks.
