A friend from Florida was in town, called and said he wanted to go with me
to the Civil War battleground I'm searching. I said fine, I was going out the next day
anyway.
So we got an early start. Hoping to get some time in while the morning was yet cool.
I have been cutting paths through the woods to get to areas I thought would give up a few
bullets. Well, we worked our way into a area that I had cleared. As it turned out we had a
pretty good morning. He pulled 2 dropped Union bullets out of the ground I got one pulled
bullet that was in real bad condition. The usual unidefinable iron, and a hand full of shotgun
shells, some shotgun shells sound like buttons on my detector.
So I almost always wind up with a few of them. Well to make a long story short.
After the hunt was over, I gave him all the good finds we made. When he got ready to leave,
he said he wanted to give me something for talking him relic hunting.
I'm thinking he's going to try to give me twenty bucks or something like that. So I said that
I didn't want anything for taking him on my site. He just got this out of his car, and gave it to me.
I think it's kind of cool.

Looks like a nice spanish cob consistent with ones from the Florida treasure coast. It would be nice to see something to show the size/scale of it.

Also, you could weigh it. There are experts here that can tell you more I'm sure.

Very nice gift, I'd say.

Yes, it is a cob coin.
The standard weight of an eight reales cob ('piece of eight') is 27.468 grams, till 1728 and then was reduced to 27.064 grams. Lower values (4, 2, 1, etc.) reales weighed proportionally less. And with the exception of some years when the coin was debased illegally, the silver composition was first 93.1% then reduced to 91.7%.

Good friend...I wish my friends would give me cobs...

Value wise, I guess I got a better deal than my friend did.
But, most of his hunting is beach.
I gave him the opportunity to search a Civil War area, that I had permission to be on.
He was Happy with the bullets and a couple of other dug relics.
And, I believe I'm happy with the cob. ;D
