random find at downtown party, guy asked me if i wanted to see something cool and was like sure, he knew nothing about me or my passion and from behind some wine bottles in the kitchen he pulls this out, and says "i found this in a field in wrens and thought it was to cool to leave there, somebody said it was made by the indians", my heart stopped because that and a full grooved axe are my dream artifacts, long story short i now own it and love it, enjoy 027.webp029.webp030.webp

I have never seen a game stone that big!! Are you certain it isn't a hammer? On second thought, a hammer would have show of pounding. Super sweet. My first find ever was a game stone. No where near that size.

I have one that size but not as perfect that one is sweet

SOHIO could you post a pic of one. If you can, I would like to see the imperfect side of it. I have polished stones that I have always checked off as hammers, but why polish a hammer?

I can't get a good picture of it in the house this camera just wont pick up in here (comes out very dark)...not much to see though just a quartzite baseball sized gameball with some uneveness to it....sorta like this one but a little bigger..pic from google lets see the ones you thought were hammerstones

Thanks SOHIO. The large ones I have are not as round as that one. No way mine are game stones. I have three game stones. The largest being near golf ball size. I have a nice frame of game pieces.

Are those more like disc shaped ? :icon_scratch:

I find nothing like those things..balls.. game pieces.. what time frame are those things?

oh ok game pcs those are very cool nice assortment of them

I know adena and hopewell cultures both made gameballs how far back they go I haven't ever really wondered they didn't make game pcs like NCs though all that I am aware of in those cultures are the round from marble size to baseball size gameballs. They played a game sorta like cricket? I think

nothing like a good game of cricket after good short faced bear dinner.

are those stone ? they look like clay from here

I'm guessing woodland through post contact. I can't swear to that, but they were found along with the gun flints. They are like pottery, so I guess they could be as old as late archaic, but I doubt it. These are all from VA. As you know, I'm on a quest for some pottery found in my home county.
