Unlike oak island, the Beale Ciphers and Captain Kidd, genealogy is a hunt that leads to real treasure!

You start with family stories, research records, and follow clues further and further back in time. You decide how much treasure to find.

You will find many collaboratos along the way willing to share the treasure they've found.

There are many family trees out and you will not doubt find your ancestors among them. Do not blindly copy their work to your tree. Verify their work and don't be surprised if they made a bad assumption or mistake.

If you are persistent and with a little luck, you will find their ancestral towns. When you do, plan a trip to their town and recover the treasure they left behind for you. You don’t have to dig. You just need to take in the architecture, the culture and the food.

Sometimes it's hard to jump the ocean. I found if I identified the siblings of my great grandparents, the answer lied with them.
If not, I would trace their descendants and using obituary "survived by", i'd reach out to living 2nd and 3rd cousins via USPS and they often knew their origins.
Quite often they had family photos where I didn't.

PS: Forty-something years ago, I travelled to Scotland to find my 'roots'; only to find out months later that the Mormon Church had already been there and copied the records I was looking for. The Mormon Church Family Search Library was only two miles from my home !! Embarrassed and costly, the trip was still worth it.

Thanks, I have used their online images/records in the past to confirm their ancestral town.
Its even more costly now but still worth it.

Imagine the embarrassment if you used someone else's research and visited the wrong town.
