Germany Finds (Part 17) SILVER Cache, Gold, and even a diamond...check it out

I have now started to check another US base here in Germany since I'm attending school there. As luck would have it another student there is an MDer and he also uses an XLT...hummm how's that for coincidence. It's at this post that I found my little silver cache, as alway I was giving up and on my way back to the car. The field was not really giving up anything. I was only feet away from my car and near some trees and I got a good signal. At 3 inches out comes out a Merc, suddenly my cell phone rings my wife gets to hear my excitement as the rest of the coins are dug from the same hole, for a total of 3ea Mercs, 1ea 1950 Roosevelt, 1945 Quarter and a 1944 Nickle (with silver). My wife told me I sounded like a little kid as I was give a narration of my discoveries. Finally got that silver quarter, don't forget all finds are in Germany.
NOTEABLES:
sliver coins
14K Diamond ring (almost did not dig rang as a pull tab)
Brass band
Large musket ball
Crest with bust
strange 50cal short cartridge case


The finds, large silver item in the 3 o'clock position might be a German helmet liner device, has markings from 1940....this is about 5 hours of finds


Observe, bust crest, 4th Armored Division crest, old button, Susan B, religions pendant and rings on bullet.

My silver cache all from one hole...yesssssssssss!!!!

Awesome finds and congrats on that silver cache! The pendant with a bust is King Ludwig, the crazy king that built Neuschwanstein castle near Garmisch. HH, Mike

I did not even know that I made the banner.
For those having questions about MD on post. Well, I just do it and explain to those that inquire. However, the post Military Police station would be a good place to ask for permission. I really do my best not to damage the common areas(parade fields, soccer fields). Only once did some gym staff come to the football fields because someone called saying that I'm digging holes in the field. When he showed up, I asked him to point to the holes, he could not detect them and he told me to have fun. When I see the MP I just wave.
P.S. I have to get all the MDing I can, Uncle Sam has a vacation planned for me in a hot dusty place.

I couldnt help but notice the merc near the top right. Was it boogered by something or is it an error?

Hey nice finds. If you ever near the Bitburg housing kaserne check out a few of the fields there. I lost an 18kt gold mans bracelet while walking my dog there in 98 or 99. I am now at Dyess AFB TX. I hope to find some old silver here and hopefully some cowboy dropped a few gold ones along the way!!

Good stuff! It always amazed me when I found american silver over there, and I found a bunch. You gotta be at graff or vilseck if you are going to school. I never hunted those places, just drove tanks around there and blew stuff up/ran stuff over 8)

I know this thread is kind of old BUT hope you have had a safe return from the sandbox by now.

The "short" .50 cal is most likely from a .50 cal spotting gun mounted on a 106mm Recoiless Rifle. The spotting round was designed to have the same trajectory as the 106mm round so theoretically if you hit it with the spotting round you would hit it with the main gun round. The .50 cal is mounted on the top slightly to the side. you can see it in the attached PIC.
