Hey guys,
First of all, let me say Hello. I have been on Friendly Metal Detecting forums and through all my Google searches, it has landed me to this page eventually. I finally signed up. Anyways, I have 2 old metal detectors that my father just bought on eBay and wanted to get back into this hobby. I know there is tons of good places to search around my area of Southern PA, but I have no clue where to go. I thought these could give us a good head start. I always hear things about the Fisher F2 and there is a nice deal on Amazon which includes everything for 215.00. How much better is that than an old White's 6000d that is in like new condition?

Welcome and happy hunting. Can't help you with the f2.

If you mean the 6000di pro (the last of the incarnations of the 6000 evolution), then yes, that's a good versatile machine, even to this day. It's tell-tale d/t black box with 950 loop. But if you meant the earlier versions of the 6000d, then no, those are starting to get "dated".

I think I'd still take it over an F2.

The f2 is a good machine. Goes deep for it's price point.

Id also like to say welcome to the tnet site & back into the hobby though im sure the ones u guys just got will do fine but id lean more towards the f2 little more updated Pi.point modes etc good little machine & cant go wrong having a pinpointer always helps good luck

Oh lol as of spots its really endless just for an idea cuz u said u dont know where to go schools, parks, ball feilds,ur yard, pending on ur machine u use mayb water least up to the control box, fair grounds, resortes,Woods, feilds, its just really endless u can narrow it down if u get over whelmed by what u actually want to detect for coins, relics, etc

thanks christo for the help. i think i will check these machines out first. they were good in their day and still are good. these ones are almost brand new from the 80's so they will keep their value pretty well. i take care of my equipment as well. i could just sell these and get the f2 if i enjoy it. i dont want to carry and sweep 30 pounds back and forth all day. if i remember correctly, thats what these machines weigh and its tolling on your arm.

If those machines are heavy you will be buying a modern machine in short order for sure.

The F2 is really good, for its price range. I got the wife one and I've been pretty impressed with it. It's really light especially with the 5 inch coil.

Hey soughtseven!
I own the f2 and I have to say that it can't be beat for it's price. It has very fast recovery and response time and goes pretty deep for a beginner detector, especially with the 11in. DD coil or 12x13 SEF coil. Another great, easy to use detector is the teknetics eurotek pro with the 11in. DD coil. It's fairly new, but it's supposed to be very fast and deep, as well as able to handle tough hunting conditions such as those found in Europe. However, if you're willing to spend a little more money, I would even go for an AT Pro, tesoro vaquero, or whites m6/mxt
Happy hunting! :)

I really want the F2. It looks very nice and the price can't be beat. I have used an 8 inch coil and 4 inch before, and the 4 inch always found the better stuff. All I found with the 8 inch was pull tabs and nails. I can't imagine what the 11 inch would be like. The F2 with the 4 inch coil looks like my cup of tea. If I find good places to hunt, I will probably just get it.
