A while ago I sent Rack some slag to see if it was good enough to knapp well he sent me the modern point back and then a gift as well. I know they are modern but have them displayed on my shelf. Thanks Rack I enjoy looking at them
I get some big pieces of slag around here. I havent been to the area where the big black pieces can be found in a while. The piece I sent him was a type of white I find in a local creek some pieces are large. Slag is a bi product from the Civil War time period from making steel. They had large stoves that made steel and the glass is mixed as liquid then was dispenced into the creeks which then hardened in chunks. He did say it was very soft and hard to knapp but as you can see the point came out nice IMO.
