Got a couple good ones yesterday- Baby US buckle & carved acorn

It's not quite 5AM here and I'm up early ready to get out again this morning :icon_sunny: Yesterday I met up with Mr. Croft, a local high school coach. We arrived at a new spot around 2PM, close to one I was hitting last fall. We ended up staying til around 6 and both made some nice finds.

Nice button in the plug

Thanks to tomjiggy for pointing out the carved acorn in the lower right corner of this picture.. I wasn't quite sure what it was yesterday being so small :laughing7:

thanks Joe, didn't expect that thing to pop out, it was the first CW find of the day... We hadn't been there 20 minutes in search of the hot spot and 5 feet from that buckle I dug a wadded up handful of foil at the same depth just 30 seconds before the plate ??? :laughing7:

Re: Got a good one yesterday

Lower right corner of the one pic, is that an "acorn" bullet?

Dude, The patina on that button is amazing, almost neon green in that first pic. I wonder if these troops were tied to the 14th Army Corps, as their Corps badge was an acorn. Awesome recoveries!

I'm not sure, I'm going to dig with a local historian today who will know if the 14th was here.. I doubt they were, but could be wrong.. Thanks

Jeff, the baby buckle was a very nice find but without a doubt finding that carved acorn is a centerpiece find! :hello2:

Awesome day of digging Jeff. The Baby U.S. Plate is a much harder plate to find than the standard U.S. plate so kudos to you buddy, and a nice field carved Acorn to go in the display's as well. The button has a very pretty patina, usually from the iron in the Red Soil, and I noticed in the photo that the soil had a ting of red to it so makes sense. Another hell of a day in Missouri. Your digging skill is shining through, and you are definitely digging alot more relics out there in Missouri than others, congratulations buddy! :occasion14:

Re: Got a couple good ones yesterday- Baby US buckle & carved acorn

Those are some first-rate finds! The buckle is of course a star find, but the carved acorn is truly the find of the day. Take it from someone who has found their share of belt plates but no carved lead like that.

Excellent post.
