Got a Few More of Patriot's Musket Balls...and a Copper Nugget!

I managed to get out for an hour this afternoon between thunderstorms and hit the beach that Patriot and I have hunted. I've found six cannonballs and literally hundreds of musket balls on or near this beach so I wasn't surprised to scoop up 22 more musket balls. I was surprised to pull out what appears to be a natural copper nugget.

The Patriot is the only other person that I've hunted with who would be content pulling nothing but musket balls all day long. I just keep telling myself that where there are this many balls there has to be some buttons and coins...still looking!

Yep, I like em, but you won't find me digging or looking for them all day. Plus I think I must have signed a contract to find nothing this Fall, and am fulfilling that obligation quite nicely at the moment.

Nice pile of lead!! I got a few copper nuggets up here, none show the embedded quartz like yours.
I don't know if they're natural or fireborn

That quartz is a little strange. I think the host rock in the UP of Mich. is basalt, no quartz pebbles in that. But I am not too familiar with the copper mines in the east. Interesting to find--I hope you find the story to go with it.

Yup that would make my day detecting for sure...I love OLD lead!! I'm sure too that there's buttons there too but maybe closer to the eroding banks, I found 4 or 5 close to them... Good to see your getting out here and there..

Plus with all the rain of late a fellow almost needs snowshoes to keep from sinking into the quagmire.

Copper does appear it could be native, which is know to exist a little northeast of you.

Keep digging, one of those leads will turn into....who knows.

There's a good chance we'll end up back where Hunthicks dug the 2 reale. If the weather is bad tomorrow it's pretty much a guarantee it will happen Friday. I don't think I have ever had so many failed hunts in a row, and it's not do to the lack of trying. We walked some pretty awesome looking spots and nothing!

I dug over 100 balls in the field adjacent to this beach in a couple hours...now I can maybe find one in an hour...

Last time I was out, I found a square nail. Was the highlight of my hunt....well, except for a raccoon in a bad mood that wanted to test out my shovel, he got smart and went the other way Can't wait to see the post, I'm sure you guys will pull something worth showing!

There's gotta be some goodies on that beach with all those musketballs around! At least you got out Romeo...there's some wet flakes flying around up this way I'm told! Good weather for ducks, and duck hunters.

Nope, not possible. Anyone who puts in their time hunting old areas with old sites will hit something good sooner or later. Slumps can be frustrating but I just think of it as the detecting Gods needing to hold back for a while to build up for the big one!

That's quite the nugget you found there! It's a lot nicer than the aluminium nuggets I find.
