GPAA,,,Going down hill?????Gold Guide is Outdated!!!

I joined the GPAA when George the farther started the club.....
I payed my $79 and got the WORKS and the 1991 Guide.......
Perry seems more educated the Tom......
Tom seems a bit Dim in the head,I enjoy watching tom walking in the bushes with his shorts on and getting stucked with sticker bushes in his legs.(very funny)
And sometimes when he gets lost in the mines with the bats around him lol.
It seems that they have not made many shows,but i can be wrong?
Most times when they are selling their memberships to the GPAA,you can see the Gold Guide and many times its from the Mid 90s and sometimes there are no dates on the Gold Guide.
So I am assuming that they have not made any shows in the 2000s as of yet?
And if they have why are they showing a guide thats 10 years out of print?
I thought each year you signup you get a updates Guide?Hummmm maybe not....JT

I've been a member of the GPAA for5 or 6 years now and I think it does a great job getting new people interested in prospecting. Most people would have no idea where to start with out the "Gold Fevor" show and the Buz special. Once they start, its easier for them to find other clubs and other places to prospect.

Could it be better? Of cource. But then what couldn't. I've found gold on some of the claims in the guide and I've been skunked on others. The same goes for some of the other clubs claims that I gone to.

Their show airs several times a week 52 weeks a year. No way they could program new shows to cover that. Heck, CSI reruns get boring too.

What would I like to see done better? For one, most of the claims I have been to have been porely marked, if at all. I know that the GPAA doesn't own these claims but leases them, so the owners are the ones falling down on that part. The club, still, should take some responsibility for this.

Updates to the claim guide and mining reports could be made available on their website, password protected of cource. I believe they have put the mining guide out on disk which save them money and lets us print out the pages of interest and not have to carry the book around. Downloading from the internet would be even better.

Remember, the more people that they get involved, the larger our lobby to protect our rights.

Hello everyone! I'm new here and love this forum. I would like to say that I have been a member of the GPAA for 3 years and like it very much. One of the biggest reasons is because of the local chapters that the GPAA has. I can take my wife and kids to the meetings and outings and not have to worry about it. I also agree that it is way cheaper to belong to the club than to stake my own claims. I am not out there to get rich (but I am serious about mining) and I would rather take my family on an outing where they can learn real skills rather than getting in trouble with too much free time at home.

I dunno, I've got mixed feeling on the subject. While I've heard about the various legal issues that the GPAA is fighting for. So that is a good thing. What does bother me though is the simple lack of interest in developing memberships in my area. Granted I don't live in a known "gold state", we do have gold here. Just really fine stuff. So what! I get really tired of "conventions" that are 1000's of miles from me (although they did add the onalaska, wisc one last year and this year), why not have one here in chicago?

I'm also wondering why we don't have more clubs in the area as well. Seems to me they promote clubs in area's that have many, but don't really promote them in area's that need them.

Well Jaxom. You could always start your own chapter. The GPAA is usually very helpful in that area and you might be surprised at the turnout you get. As far as people not knowing there is gold in your area, how many people have you told? Maybe there are people around your area with the idea that there is no gold because some unknowing soul told them so, but would still like to prospect. Anyhow, good luck with your ventures and hope you hit the big one.

the big legal battles are being waged in the Northwest with Indian tribes and Environwhacks and small miners and prospecting clubs.. Dave McCracken of the 49ers is headlining an ongoing battle with the Karuk Tribe on one of the 49er's clubs primary claims. The GPAA contributed monies to the legal counsel for the efforts through Walt Eason (Chapters Coordinator). The battles to keep public lands from the ecowhacks and socialist scum is our biggest fight. Even those of us in the flatlands better contribute to PLP or NLRL or Miners Response so we don't lose our ability to ply our hobbies. Like the NRA, my passions run deep. I feel Gun Rights shouldn't be screwed with nor should the right to stake a claim on Public Lands within the guides of the 1872 Mining Act.

Mike Higbee of 49ers sent me a note that there is a lifetime membership up for grabs $1500 to the first taker.. Normally it's $3500. If I lived in Northern CA, WA, or OR I would jump in a heart beat. Stuck in Omaha Nebraska with busy teenagers I wouldn't be able to enjoy the club for about 10 years.

I've not seen anything either, I've been on NLRL, Gold Gold, and if there was anything AlaskaJim, McCracken or Higbee would would have it out.

This is purely academic . I didn't say 2 years , I said 2 seasons . The intervention was not allowed so it will have to go to trial on appeal . The regs are already in effect . This was already a "done deal". Does anyone have a dredge permit for this year ?

i just received a press release about the karuk tribe -USFS-49Ers pertaining to walt easons intervention. and judge Bonnie Sabraw pertaining to the Karuks and the USFS violating the patriot Act . walts intention is that if he isnt allowed to intervein that he would press forward on the violation of the patriot act,and RICO violations. the judge indicated her intent to deny Easons motion. ( http://www.alameda.courts.ca.gov/courts/ ) then hit domain;then hit domain;then hit case summary;then type in the case number RG05211597 and submitt;then hit registry of actions; thengo to the latest fillings at the bottom. Eason has over 20 seperate resons why the case should be dismissed! this case is far from being over! and i have heard of northern cal. guys getting their permits.i myself will hold off untill this mess is over.and thats exactly what the greenies want to happen! and yes the FS illeagle plan is in place but with a favorable deccission from the judge it will be overturned or itll be in a higher court!

I didn't say that the case was over . I said what you are saying . The regs are in place LEGAL OR NOT . If it goes to appeal there will be a lot of time passing . This stuff does not move quickly .With the season almost here any delay will affect everyone . Even if people "think" they are legal the FS can enforce the regs until a final ruling . Any bets on how long that is ? The intervention is more important than many think . If it can be accepted the whole mess will go away . You are dealing with courts that stop water to farmers because a fish "might" be affected . This is all smoke and mirrors . I guess we'll have to wait for the first day of the dredging season to see what the deal is . This is not as much a case of dredging as it is a full scale assault on personal freedoms .

I am glad I ain't a lawyer.. Looks like a lot it took about 80 pages of crap just to allow Walter Eason the right to act as an interest in the matter.
Near as I can tell the current matters being discussed area related to Walter Eason acting as an intervening party on a conference call..

If you are members as you say and if you read the magazine or the Pick and Shovel you would know this. They spend alot of time interoducing the new guide in those publications. The Gold Fever Shows are made with new episodes twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, kind of like two seasons in one year with each being about 6 shows each. I also wish they made more shows. As for members not getting different items like guides, well like all large organizations there are mistakes and things slip through the cracks. You just need to keep after them. I'm not sure about this but I had heard the Massie's sold the Outdoor Channel. Call them and tell them you want more of the old shows with the Buzzard or any of the old Prospecting America shows with Perry. I also think Tom is no fool but likes to act the part to make his shows entertaining. My two cents worth or maybe more like $1.89.

I'm not dissatisfied with the claims I've been to. I've been to some of the public places to look for gold and the landscaping looks terrible. Hundreds of uncovered holes and trash everywhere! I believe that's part of Toms mission to help us as prospectors and miners to help loosen some of the BLM regulations by teaching everybody responsible mining. Have I not filled a hole or left trash? Probably, but when hundreds and thousands of people repeat the same mistake the BLM takes action. The GPAA claims I've been to, there has been minimal impact to the environment due to responsible prospectors. Better yet, I find color. I'm no gold hound! Just a handle. The gold I do find has been thru luck, persistence, & research. I believe a majority of my research has already been done by the GPAA. They're putting me in a good location to be successful.
It's not their fault that somebody found a 1 oz nugget in the exact same spot u dug 10 days ago after heavy rains or that it was pushed downstream and u got skunked! In my opinion prospecting is like life. We are always trying to find it in ourself to dig a little deeper( hole or mental fortitude). Sometimes we choose 1 path and its unproductive, while if we would have chosen a different path we'd be celebrating. Hopefully we are wise enough to chose the other path next outing.
Our memories are gold even if the pan says otherwise!!!
