Hey guys
I was working in hartford ct today and headed north to look for a hunting spot. I found a field and was granted permission. I ended up getting a musket ball, a 1964 rosie and a 1942 silver nickel. I also got a copper I couldnt make out any details on. I got home alittle while ago and cleaned the coin. I can barely make out what looks to be a four leged animal standing facing left. I opened my red book and sure enough i saw the Higley/Granby coppers. What do you guys think?

Very cool find. I would keep it the way it is. Nice find!

Authenticated by PCGS. 1737 value me as you please ID 12938994

It was my metal detecting goal for many years.

I hope Keith's can be authenticated

That is great that you found one years ago, Did PCGS ID the variety, probably not, perhaps for lack of detail or lack of expertise at PCGS and as IP asked earlier do you know if it is counted in the census of known Higleys?

Has it been authenticated and part of the numbers known? Pretty rare club to be in with those.

Things are lookin good. I had the "I AM GOOD COPPER" pegged, I did some photo shopping and it really stands out. What an absolute amazing coin....You lucky dawg.

This isnt a Banner yet ,man what a coin.....

Sure hope it works out for you and its the real thing. Super great find. Congrats!

I do not think it was part of the census of known Higleys. The variety is the value me as you please with the three hammers on the back.

Nice Finds!
have always hoped for one of these, wheel goes round, cut my way through, I am good copper.

A Fine piece of History, Congrats :hello2:

Very rare coin find if legit, which seems to be the case, hope Dan Freidus replies and helps you with any questions about the coin, what to do with it, etc. If he does not reply, please PM me and I will make sure you get help.

I hope it is not one of the copies made by Robinson in 1861 or from the Bolen dies in 1864, which would be very similar to what you think you see on the reverse, compared to the Robinson copy. Hopefully Dan Freidus will provide you with the right information or contact for authentication, which should be accomplished by him or someone he recommends.

Don

just wanted to see if you or anyone else has heard from Dan on the matter

This should be on the banner once it is authenticated... Congrats..

Awesome find, and hope it cleans up.:leprechaun-hat:

Very interesting... I also never heard of one... not surprising I'm in the southwest too...

Chukers

I also "photoshoped" it but it didn't help.

I sure hope it turns out being a Higley and you get it authenticated , Congrats and way to go on your find of a life time...See you on the Banner....

finally got an email out to dan so hopefully we can get a postive id on this thing

You might get close to 100% there, but most won't authenticate a coin without an in person inspection. What you should be hoping for is it jumps out at him as a particular variety, and I think that has everything to do with matching the "CO".

Every day for you must feel like a week. :)

Right now I see the worst case scenario as the coin being confirmed but the variety inconclusive. That would put a good hurt on the value, but the bragging rights will still be immense.
