As most of you realize, many of us here on TNet don't live in locations with lots of cool finds. Many who read this forum live in areas where a wheat cent rates up there almost with a $5 gold piece find.

I happen to be such a person.

I hold the record in our club for indian cents for this area ...about a dozen over the last 2 years :tard: :tongue3: :icon_jokercolor: ;D

Ya! Bad area!

Anyway, yesterday I decided to go in search of pirate treasure (ya right!) and came upon this old foundation. Old here means anything over 10 years. In this case though we're talkin ancient...80+ years old.

I got a solid signal that sounded like large deep iron. Using my full sized farm shovel I dug down to about 2 1/2 feet and thought I found a property stake. Upon closer inspection I saw it was some sort of gun. I'm guessing a toy of some sort but it's pretty darn heavy soild iron.

Well, heck! Beats a deep empty Bud can!

Now aren't you glad you read all this? :tongue3:

HH,

Badger

Pretty Darn Cool Badger!!!!
Keep safe and apparently, dig deeper......

Thats awesome! yeah I can relate to your story! :) I live in Washington State and my particular area that I live in you do not see much in finds for old coins. I dug up 2 wheaties over 3-4 month period and one silver 1950 roosevelt dime. Finds are getting pretty slim. I am going to say good luck to the both of us!!!

Nice dig. I looks like a long barreled version of the stevens "tipup" single shot pistol.

Hey! There are some of us out there  :tongue3:

Once in a blue moon I hunt down south and man, those folks got it made!

We visited the in-laws and within 30 minutes time I dug a gold ring (low grade 10K) and a dozen coins right in their yard and several were nice old wheats. We had to visit so the detector went into the trunk. :'( Had I been able to hunt that yard (very old) I'd come away with seated and many other great coins I'm sure. But now we're back up north :tard: :'( Pulltab/foil city.

I have buddies who hunt the Florida beaches, Civil War, and Revolutionary War sites. They dig stuff that even a treasure magazine editor couldn't believe. A bad day for some of these guys is to only dig a dozen 3-ringers and maybe 3 Union buttons! ???

If guys like us could get to some of the sites represented here almost daily we'd litterally clean up.

All the talk over detectors and depth has little meaning. It's location--location--location that really counts. :coffee2:

i know how you feel

What happened to the original post ... :icon_scratch:

You had a title that read "Have gun will travel or Pop goes the weasel" ...(something like that)

What stood out about the ORIGINAL post was a bunch of silver coins that seemed to be Spanish ...

Where did they go ... :icon_scratch: I expected to see them again because I planned on commenting ...

The Title & The Content of your original post was edited ... prolly some copyright thing ...

I sure liked seeing those ancient coins ~ Nick

I shortened it Nick. I figured most people don't want to read all my crap so I got more to the point.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it is?

I'll clean it up some and hang it someplace.

Damn those are SWEET ...

You should have left that Righteous Silver in the original post ...

Probably, I just didn't want that low quality stuff taking away from fresh dug genuine iron ;D

So those Spanish silvers are Michigan finds?

If so, it sounds like you've still got a good area there. I honestly believe that you can find Great finds just about anywhere--but it requires increasingly higher amounts of perseverance, thought, research, and intuition.

P.S.--The gun is great too. :)

Thanks.

No, the cobs didn't come from Michigan. Wish they did.

Two and a half FEET? :o :P You must have had more rain than I have to be able to dig that far down, Badger! :D But that IS a cool find!! Clean it up and let us see the results!! 8) OH...and like that silver too! :o

Nana

When I was a land surveyor in Virginia back in the 80s, ran across a lot of property corners made from old civil war era rifles.
Oh how I miss those days.
Cool gun.
