my brother and i hunted an area that i really didn't think would be very promising. about 20 minutes into the hunt he comes over with a copper disc, smaller than a large cent but bigger than an Indian head. it was very corroded but i think it is a half cent. its hard to get much detail off of it but there is definitely a bust facing right on it, and i can almost make out the words "America","liberty" and "half cent". its soaking in olive oil at the moment. I'm tempted to buzz it with electrolysis but I'm afraid i will make it worse.i hope i will be able to extract a date from it. anyway, after about an hour of digging trash and clad, i decided to hunt on the other side of a little road. it looks like it may have been a picnic grove or something at one time. the first target i dug was this beautiful 1919 standing liberty quarter! a first for me! then a little later this 1916 merc pops out! ( no "D" :-\) i also found two large cents. one of them looks like it was hammered on the edges. i cant get a date off of it and its hard to scan a decent pic of it because its not flat anymore. you can almost see "one cent" in the scan. the other large cent is an 1830 but again it didn't scan well. copper coins around here really take a beating in this soil. I'm always jealous of you guys who post nicely detailed dug large cents. i have found 6 and they all are beat up. :'( . i also found a little gold plated ring and a couple of Wheaties. also an old copper id tag that reads, "J. EDWARDS WILMINGTON DE" its probably from 1900 or so. looks like i might have stumbled onto a site that hasn't been hunted to death for a change! i don't want to give up any clues to its location but i will say that it is in a very unlikely spot. ;) we only hunted a small portion of the area, so hopefully there will be more where this came from! ;D

i was using the SE today, although any of the machines would have found these coins. they were not terribly deep. my brother was using the 250 and did have some trouble with some power lines nearby. the SE ran nice and stable.

oh hell yes
killer score 8)

Hope you can get back there ! great coins i'll bet made your day i know it would have mine ;)

HP,
Looks like you found a great new spot. :o Wonderful finds you got there.
You may want to check with MIRAGE (Bob). That looks like the 1916 Merc he found last week. It may have fallen out of his pocket? ??? ;D
Congrats,
MM

those are some grreat finds! good luck on the rest of the area. keep us posted. ;D

Alright, Keith. Looks like that Explorer is starting to pay off for you. Great silver finds. You know that SL quarter design is my favorite and your 1919 is really beautiful. It's very close to, if not right at, extra fine as far as I'm concerned. The merc is really nice too. HH
Bob

SWEEEET! Looks like you came away smelling like a rose on that hunt.
