Had The Giggles Today ,1876 Half Dollar, First Gold of 2008 !!!

[JimInPhilly]

Was eyeballing a construction site for a couple of days and finally got some time to hit it, Ive been doing pretty good on some construction sites lately...
Dug about 200 bottle caps and was getting tired out , but found some old china and oyster shells so I knew there was a good chance at some old coins in this area..Then found the 1876 Seated Half..I love that feeling when you pick an old coin up, you dont know what exactly what it is but you know its a good one . Then rubbed the dirt off.. Man , people must have thought I was nuts , standing there laughing at a dirty blob in my hand !
Then moved on and picked up the mens 10K ring with emerald and two diamonds (real?)..At first i thought it was another bottle cap...It was right on the surface, surprised no one saw it. Its my first gold of the year..

Happy Hunting!

Nice Ring...Even if it's gold or not, it definitely takes back seat to that unbelievable coin...In a construction site too...you were chosen to have that Coin. Congrats

[JimInPhilly]

Thanks for all the kudos, I went and took some closeup pics of the Seated in the sunlight to try to bring out the detail in the coin. will post and see how it looks . This is probably the best old coin Ive found as far as condition.

Great finds, Jim. Congrats. The half sure beats the one you found last year. Hope you bring your finds to the next South Jersey Club meeting.

Sweet !! You must have been psyched! Just curious , what is the signifigance of oyster and clam shells? I dug some up yesterday in the woods.

....
Some things I like to see when digging is clamshells and oyster shells , It is a clue that someone was there a long time ago. The shells dont degrade that easily. Maybe they were dumped there or people were hanging out there a long time ago. And where people congregated or dumped stuff, theres a shot at a nice find.
Also like to see old bits of china plates, shards of glass , marbles, pottery or small pieces of brick mixed in the dirt. When this is found I start to SLOWW down.
