Hades But no!!!---No one's getting my Diamond ---

I decided to go to our local park today; being the weather's really cool and it's overcast. This entire park's been hit hard by everyone, including myself. With all the talk of robberies of late, I thought I'd best go packing. My Desert Eagle 50 Cal, Freedom Arms 454 Casull, and Colt 38 Special will take care of any varmints willing to fight. Only kidding but it's been on my mind for sure. My friend Leon wrote just this morning from New Hampshire. His house was broken into and he lost his SE and DFX along with other items. I'm hoping the crooks get their due.

Anyway, on to the hunt! I dedicated myself to using my Excelerator 5 inch round coil today on my SE. Anytime I use small coils, I predetermine my hunting area, settling on a strip of land less than 20 feet wide by approx. 30 feet. I worked it slow and steady digging any signal that even hinted at being good. I know there's a few of you that like to see everything so I included the trash as well. The three Sac dollars and Kennedy half were found stack on top of each other. My first significant cache! I found a Colorado Sales Tax Token; my first token in a while. The diamond is probably glass but it's mounted in what appears to be silver. The three jewelry pieces, I thought were part of a bracelet or something but then, maybe not. The little Gold Flag pendant registered as gold but is plated. All these targets represent 4 hours of working a swinging! The picture including the Mood Ring was my short hunt from Tuesday.

Thank you for your interest!

Wow!! Tiny coil, but BIG Guns!! :o

Ron, those are some serious handguns you have there. Those first two I'd imagine produce some wicked recoil!! :o

Congrats on your finds!! Boy, that 5" coil is sure a small one. You really must go slow to overlap your finds with that little guy!

Nice finds and some nice big boy toys.

I have a CCW and carry sometimes.  It's sad that we have to even feel like we have to protect ourselves just to have a few minutes of enjoyment of metal detecting in the park.  I saw in one of the other posts that two hunters, that were out metal detecting, were attacked by a guy.  I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.  It's called peace of mind.

That royally sucks that they stole your friends detectors.  I hate thieves and believe like some of these countries where that hand is chopped off for stealing.  Somebody taking something that is not theirs just to buy a few dollars in drugs is no excuse.  Sorry but I don't feel sorry for them.

Good luck on the next hunt.....I carry my Sig and sometimes just an S&W .38 snub and I thank God everyday that I have never had to use it here in Florida.  Again it's peace of mind.

Re: Hades But no!!!---No one's getting my Diamond ---

GRB,
I just pulled out my small Excelerator coil last night with the intentions of using it on a very trash site that I pulled a few older coins out of. I've had it for almost two years but have never used it. I should be able to get out with it on Sunday. Any tips??

Nice job on the finds...keep them coming.

Re: Hades But no!!!---No one's getting my Diamond ---

Good morning Folks!
I'm getting a late start this morning due to an electrical power outage. A nice storm came through Southern Colorado; taking
some electrical transformers with it. Thanks for all the comments!

Yes, little coils require a lot of patience; something I don't normally have. Nonetheless, I've learned to "think" small when using one, as in "area" intended to hunt. I'd worked this particular spot last year; using Minelab's FBS-800 8 inch coil, obviously missing quite a few targets; even though, I'd taken it slow. This section is located right next to the tot lot; so, it gets hunted by others almost every day and I generally avoid it.

Something else I like to do is to extend my lower rod as far as possible; allowing my swing to cover as much ground as possible; being careful to overlap each swing, taking it slow and easy. Hunting in all metal, with SEMI-AUTO SENS set at 32 MAX on my SE/SOUNDS-Ferrous I actually hit on a can at over 10 inches! I recovered it more out of curiousity than any thing else. I hit a pipe at over 12 inches! So, the little coils are capable of extreme depths. The diamond pendant was only down about 3 inches and barely made a squeak. Had I been in a rush, or using a larger coil I would have missed it for sure. I'd used my 4.5x7 Excelerator coil earlier in the week; finding the Mood ring and assorted finds at a local school and park. IMO, you just can't beat the small coils in trashy areas and may actually be wasting your time; leaving goodies trying to swing the larger coils.

I hope I've written something that will help someone should anyone else choose to use a small coil. This day and time, with so many people detecting we all must look for certain advantages. Not many people will swing the small coils for very long. And, even if they do most rush to get it done. Small coils are your ACE in the hole; have you thought about adding one to your arsenal? And, if so "do you-will you" actually use it? :)

Enjoy the hunt!

GRB,
Nice job on the finds. Love the Sac dollars.
I know what you mean. This world is getting to be a crazy place. You almost feel bad for your own kids, or their kids growing up in this society. It seems like you have to fight or argue with someone on a daily basis because they want to scr-w you. Customer service? What's that? ??? :icon_scratch:
Loved the post.
