Dang!!! That's a nice Knife!!

Were you digging or was it on the surface?

on top I walked all over it. I started noticing chips so I looked closer at the area.

I also found a metal object in a arrow shaped pattern but I know to little and would be a little embarrassed to put it on here. But the metal object looks as if the edges were attempted to be worked. I was in the mouth of a hole in stone wall, I wouldn't call it a cave being it only goes in about 30 or 40 feet. Kinda reaching in hopes it may have been used by early travelers.

Very nice knife. Great find. Show the metal point. Could be a trade point. Never know.

dugin, I would like to another pick of the stone artifact. Both sides would be great! Also the refection obscures the thickness. A size reference would also be helpful. My guess would be awl? But would say knife that has been that has been sharpened from extensive use. That is a great find!

The metal artifact you have shown, appears to me as the tip of a knife. Better pic's would be helpful as well! It very well may have been broken with the intent of making a metal arrowhead. I am not Hi-jacking your thread but want to show you a few examples of broken knife tips i have found in a frame. There are other artifacts mixed in, so I apologize for not having a pic that is more to the point (pun not intended)Picture 025.webp

Your stone point may be a re-make from a knife to a drill.

DSCF8076.webp forgot this one

I would say you found a nice shelter, and I would expect it could have been used for thousands of years. I would hunt it heavily, and dig if it's permissible.

That is one cool letter opener! I did not know they had those back then.:laughing7: Wow that is a sweet artifact! Thanks for the extra pic's. It looks like it is a knife, with heavy use and re-sharpening. Not sure it was ever used as a drill, but was headed down that path. An awl for how the tip is formed, could have been a possible, but (IMO) it was used as a knife only. Thank you for sharing!

The metal artifact, I am not sure of now, with a reference, and the other pic's. I say no to knife tip, but cannot offer a idea of what it was apart of, or intended use. I will give it some thought, but do not think there will be an answer. Thanks for the extra pic's they are very helpful.

Looks like you found a nice Cobb's knife that's seen a couple sharpenings.
Sounds like you found a good spot.

Rock that is a nice blade as well. It looks like a preform ready for its notches though...

I wish I could find one like the above knifes. The only flint objects I've found are small. In other words I would like to find something worth something. The Indians here don't seem to be as talented as your Indians.

One day! I like the one you found it looks very nice and not a everyday find either. They could only use the type of rock that was in their area. That was a great find. Not all artifacts is about the $ value. Its the thrill of finding something that hasnt been picked up in 100s to 1000s of years for me.
