Found in farm field everything from indian artifacts to modern coins. Lots of colonial finds. Any help appreciated. 3" long 1" wide

That's a good question Mud Hut. Looks like a 2060 link but I have never seen a brass one

I actually have a 6 foot brass chain tong with a brass chain. It's at work so I'll post a pic tomorrow. But, while this does have that look to it, the holes look way too small and they look almost like they were punched thru. Brass tools are used in explosion prone areas such as our numerous petro chemical plants we have along the coast here. Brass tools won't spark and are mandatory is some places. They're not common things you'd expect to find on a farm.

Sorry, I forgot to post a photo of my brass chain links. While the OP's photo resembles one, I think the crude holes in his rules it out.

The crude holes is what gave it away to me as a rope tensioner. However, everyone has their opinion on what it is or was. All of us might be way off base. Maybe it was a homemade fix to a car problem
