Help identifying a coin

I found this yesterday in an old 1930's home site in Alabama and can't identify if it is a real coin or just some play token. Very heavy, seems to be copper covered by something. Any ideas? New to the site and looking forward to learning more from everyone.

Looks like a Spanish cob. How big,heavy it is? I would expect it to be silver as I dont know of any Maravedis with similar look.

Could be a Mardi Gras imitation coin.

I have an exact copy of this coin made in plastic. On the right side picture mine says "Made in China" at the top (which is actually the bottom). If yours is metal, it's probably a decent replica, but the fact the all of the outside knicks and dents, all of the wear patterns, everything except the "Made in China" are the same, suggests mass produced fake to me.

Thanks guys, you set me on the right track. I found a couple of pics that pointed me to a Mexican 8 reales...I found the letters "OMD" on the side of it. With the "O" being pretty small which apparently means something. It is heavy but it looks bronze or copper underneath the patina but I am not metallurgist. I will have to find something to weight it. Probably a nice replica. Thanks for the help. Going back today to see if there are any more laying around...Ha.

Sorry, no probably, its a repro, a common known type.

"Mo" is the mint mark for Mexico City.
Also unique to Mexican reales are the globes or spheres sprouting from each of the four extremities of the cross.
What does it weigh in grams?
An 8-reales would weigh close to 27.5 grams; proportionally less for lower denominations.
