Help iding weird 1c token

Just for some info...its very thick and heavy unlike any coin i know of

That's a beauty counter stamped coin you have there, a little research or a lot might answer the question of what it is, some are easily identified others remain obscure and unidentified

It looks like a large cent that's had the rim "adjusted." Are there any details other than the counterstamp on either the front or back? It looks quarter-size...do you have a reference?

As u can see its slightly larger than a quarter. There is no other detail i can make out other than the 1c

Agreed, but the I is more likely to be a J in early speak (like John C?)

Looks a lot thicker than a large cent, unless they had a way to widen the rim when executing that sort of counterstamp. To wipe out the whole face of the coin must have taken one hellva press. It's more likely that it's not a counterstamped large cent, but some sort of fabricated "token" of sorts. What's on the other side?

Almost looks like somebody tapped it around the edge to make that rim.... kind of like the way they make coin rings. The thickness doesn't look quite the same all the way around the coin.

Agreed, & they picked a completely worn coin.

the stamping looks colonial to me - as Crusader stated - it could likely be JC
I know John Coney - see wikpedia - was a New England smith and used a similar monicker
at times - never know if it could be something he played with
was the area colonial where it was found ?

There are many unattributed 'IC' countermarks on Geo II Halfpennies, Geo III & even 1797 Pennies. They are unlikely to ever be properly identified to an owner/maker.

the force of striking the "IC" stamp, may be the cause for the wide rim. i bet the "IC" die was just a tad smaller then the coin,
probably hit with a sledge hammer on a log or something, just my thought.

notice how the outside of the rim is round, but the inside of the rim is almost shaped like a hex nut?

Thanks for all the comments/info. Wish i knew more. Ive found a 1794 large cent, flat buttons, musket balls, minnie balls, etc at this site.
