Hi Im new To all of this, But stumbled across a piece of Earth ware while walking my pet. This made me look harder for other stones, rocks and artifacts.
After having someone look at my findings, I was disappointed to find that they're just rocks. But then I came across this site and I'm seeing some similar things!

Sorry Katie, but all I see are natural stone formations as well.

Don't give up though. Keep your eyes to the ground and you will eventually find some artifacts. Concentrate on high spots near good water sources.

I enjoy it but tend to 'see' or make my brain think that it sees it. :)

100_2028.JPG I know it is tough when mother nature makes them to look like artifacts. I still pick them up and take them home and after washing them off and using a loop to look at them for signs of work on the edges. I still get disappointed a lot. But I still go in hopes of finding a good one. I got one last week that I though for sure it was an oval knife. It even has a notch at the base like a lot of them do and was fairly thin and of course oval in shape. But after I looked I believe it is a Geofact. I will show you it. I can see no signs of flaking or grinding on this piece. Keep looking it will come. Thanks for posting, rock

I have seen a beautiful cabochon made from a rock found at a Taco Bell. Beautiful rocks are everywhere!

My entire kitchen is loaded with rocks! Lol my yard was hunting ground during Civil War and also the Orapak Indians. Part of it is my inexperience, but would love to learn more. Do they have classes for archaeology?

There are sites you can learn from rite on your comp. And its free. I do all my research from books and the comp. Just go to your local book store and ask to see a list of what they have as to what you want to learn. I like rocks and there is nothing wrong with that. Besides they all were rocks till altered for use. Good Luck

Thank you very much!! I do usually try to match a type of rock on the web. Recently, I found (I thought was bone) a piece of a village pipe. Pretty cool!:)

Katie-Plays-with-Dirt! The third photo down shows two items. The lower of the two items looks absolutely like Nat. Am., pottery- looks like the ground shells they tempered the clay with. It's a small piece but That's what you want to look for. I'm a little surprized no one else caught that! The rest- use for flower bed border...;)

I'd like to see a better picture of the piece yakker is referring to because I don't think it's Pottery, but I may be wrong.

I think so.. it's the 3rd pic down- your hand w/ 2 items on it. the one more in your palm (and not near your fingers) is the one piece I'm curious about. Please do your best to get a clear close-up (the little flower icon on your camera or phone) and take 3 pics- top, bottom and side. That will give us a better understanding of that piece. Thanks!
Cheers-
Yak
