Mastereagle and I had not been out hunting in a couple weeks and we both needed some detecting time. We planned our hunt even though the temperature here was around freezing. It was supposed to get bad tomorrow and we both knew we better get the hunt in before the freezing rain.
I walked out of work from changing clothes and ME22 was sitting in his car. He explained that he wanted to take his car because it looked more like a car that a college kid would drive and wouldn’t attract attention. (What!!
). I guess he didn’t think about how he drives attracting attention. He ran several cars off the road on the way there and even hit a deer.
Upon arriving he stepped out of the car and immediately I saw his was wearing blue and yellow “Bunny” and “Chick” berets in his hair! How embarrassing! I have been through this several times with him. I reminded him that “boys” don’t wear hair berets and told him I would start detecting without him if he didn’t remove them immediately. He said “OK, OK, take it easy.” He removed the small plastic berets and put on a hat. He is always worried that I will make a great find before he does. So…I sat back and worked the ground slowly while he ran here there and everywhere and dug all the easily accessible targets. He looked a bit like my dog looking for a place to poop…running this way, and then spinning on a dime and going the other direction only to twist back the way he came from. No way, I was going over there to detect. (What if HE DID need to go to the bathroom?)
Here are some of the things I found:

Every time ME22 made a significant find his headlamp would go out momentarily and then lightening would strike, illuminating his face briefly, and then he would appear red with horns on top of his head. This was always followed with an evil, maniacal laugh that seemed to echo. Dude…what’s the deal with that?
We hunted for about two hours and Mastereagle22 would occasionally find something neat, but it was really getting cold. The temp has fallen to 27 degrees by the temp gauge in my truck, and the wind continued to batter us.
ME22 got a call from his father-in-law whose house had burnt down earlier in the day asking him if he set the fire. He told him he had not. His father in law told him to get over there and help him clean the basement out and try to salvage some of his crystal meth…I mean taxidermy mounts. In a second he was in the car and gone. I waited by the curb and he came back around the block and said, “Hey buddy…Ya need a ride?” I punched him in the eye.
Well, because we got freezing rain today, last nights hunt was probably our last for awhile again. I hope this nasty weather breaks soon. Thanks to Mastereagle we now have 7 places (old homes in great historical side of town) to hunt!
Only to set the record straight, I want to say that Mastereagle did a great job on the hunt last night and earned every one of the things he dug. Congrats Bud!!! I am happy that he was able to dig some great things. He has watched me celebrate a lot lately and that is bound to be a rough. I know it always feels great when the finds are coming. It cast a long dark shadow over the person that isn’t finding things though.
By the way, Mastereagle hates all old people and children!
