Horses make lousy partners & Treasure hides in dung

I hit my new spot today for six hours. I did a little exploring around, and found two old stone foundations in the woods that used to be sheds, a nice pond behind them, some huge Oaks, and what looks like the old farm road/path through the woods. That will have to be a future hunt. I decided to hit the fenced in horse area where Mirage (Bob) scored his 1/2 reale last week, and me an 1893 IH. I was going to grid it off, but one horse there had other plans. ;D He decided to chum up to me, and followed right next to me. Then he would move in front of me and just stand there so I could detect forward. I kept seeing a horses -ss in my face. :o :'( I had to keep going around him, and soon realized this was not going to work today. Next time I'm bringing an air horn with me. ;D Mirage was a lot easier to MD with. ;D
I then worked around the house yard again, but slower this time. I picked up a few keepers in the yard including the Merc, 3-ringer, musket ball, and a flat button.
After that, I tried my luck in the large pasture area in back of the house. It has a long slope down towards a dried up river bed in the woods. There are a few areas closer to the top that have large old stumps and some foundation stones. Also a LOT of horse manure too. :o I ended up finding a nice flat button, the decorative brass piece, and some other relics in the manure areas. ;D
Not a great day, but not too bad either.
As Larry the Cable Guy would say..."Get er' DUNG"
Here's my finds for today:

*1936 Merc

*18mm flat button - "Gilt" and "S" back mark.
This back mark is a first for me.

*21mm flat button - "Treble Gilt - Rich Orange" back mark.
Again, a first for me as far as back marks.

*3-ringer , Musket ball, round lead (bullet?)

*Silver what's it with "Schrader" on it

*A large iron ring with latch still on it. Is this a buckle of some sort?

*Asst'd relics and glass.

*Two wicked looking teeth that I have no idea what kind of animal they are from. Any dentists out there?
I'd hate to get bit by whatever animal these were attached too. :o

Thanks for looking Folks,
MM

Awesome finds and loved the story too! Was still laughing about the horse when I saw the picture of the horse with his head down by the detector shortly followed by a couple of teeth! :o rofl At least I know you well enough to know you are far too kind to have extracted the teeth with the coil of your detector! Looks like you have found a great place to hunt though....those are some cool finds! :D

You're right. Me and the horse have become buds now. It's taken a few trip out there, but he's finally built up the nerve to come close to be petted.
I did almost extract some teeth from Mirage with my coil last week though after he dug up that reale on my home turf. ;D ;)

Re: Horses make lousy partners & Treasure hides in dung

Nice relics MM..I really like the bullet and the buttons..the Merc is nice too!

The teeth look too small to be from a cow..they're either from a horse or a deer.

Thanks Nat.
I thought maybe a deer, but didn't know. By the looks of those points, I was thinking a land shark. ;D :o

Hahaha! at least he didn't go behind you and dig all your plugs back out like my dog does!

Re: Horses make lousy partners & Treasure hides in dung

That spot just keeps on giving. What, Bob lost his false teeth? Really, look like beaver to me.

Nice merc, and buttons. Lipstick tube looks like it got stepped on by that mule.

Great hunt...I learned early on never go around the dung.....also, since starting this sport a couple of months ago, I must have stumbled on 7 or 8 cow teeth...kind a weird and funny.
