How deep to dig (pickaway)

where i am digging after about 16 inches its brown clay matreial the after 12 inches again it grey clay. where do i dig to

Once we reached the clay level we used to sometimes dig an an extra couple of inches, just to make sure nothing had settled down any further and we never found anything so we quit going any further. I love sifting at those old house sites. The oldest points we have is due to nothing but digging and sifting. Our sifter is a little bigger than most folks but here is a picture of my B-I-L shoveling some dirt in...d2

Yeah what they said.I'm surprised you could even dig at all ground up here froze.

well i guess he says it stays a little wet under the surface here. at first i dug about 4 feet deep fight water everything, then when i scraped the layers slowly i found the bone and 2 flakes, but i only made a trench about 4 feet long, because i took all the time digging holes to deep, lol thanks

dug a few more trenches today, nothing. a few mixed flints but nothing worked. i have found many peices in the fields before, im digging about 15 inches deep
