Don't go anywhere without it.

Why would you? It pinpoints the target.

I can change a car battery with a crescent wrench, but I'd rather have box end wrench.

The best tool for the job.

I agree with G.I.B. Wouldn't go out the door without one. I have accumulated 6 of them. 2 Pro pointers, 2 of the old White's Bullseyes, and 2 of the TRXs. Every thing but the TRXs stay home when I go hunting. They will save you a ton of time, and a lot of frustration trying to find a target.

Geesh...after 48 years, I say why bother?

Always saves lots of time and no damage to find

at first I had none, this year I got a cheap one

went back to doing without

I've been digging for 48 years now and I've NEVER used one. I'm wondering how much help they really are. I may get one as my age is catching up to me. I await. PEACE:RONB

WATCH OUT (age) is catching up to you!
Me too! (wonder if it is contagious...?!) :laughing7:
Actually I've owned three, my Nokta is my forth pinpointer.
They are invaluable!
Barker, you must do fields or woods, dig with a shovel?
...and pass handfulls of dirt over your detector's coil, right?
I know sometimes I can save cutting through a closely-associated big root, by
finding what angle and direction to dig around the obstacle.
You're up near Boston, consider a waterproof pointer, they aren't that much extra, saves grief of having one of your main tools go belly-up, due to corrosion from moisture.

I ALWAYS HUNT WITH ONE LOVE IT .

To each his own, but I wouldn't be without one. Especially when coin shooting and other smaller targets are involved.

Yes, Jeff, cheap ones are worthless. It needs to be a Garrett or other quality pinpointer. I went a few years with crappy ones and saw no value in them til I bought my Propointer. Would never hunt now without it.

After I bought mine I wouldn't detect without it, but don't buy a Harbor Freight one they are just junk.Tried one of those as my first, it worked but not for long maybe a few days, traded it back for another and same thing again but since I could trade in and get another I did and it broke so just gave up on their electronic crud.

With all new detectors, they have their own pinpointer. I may buy a low price one from Bass Pro Shop in Connecticut

For sure, easy to carry, fairly cheap, batteries last forever, makes finding elusive targets easier. Even at tot lots the come in handy so you don't have to scramble around just to find a nickel. Most rlevent use us gound hunting, olny place I do not use them is at the beach.

I bought one but don't use it, 9 times out of 10 the target is in the center of the hole, having to pick up the pinpointer to confirm that just seems like a waste of time.

I'm sure they are handy in certain situations.

Detecting without one for 30 yrs. has probably got me set in my ways.

One of the best reasons to have one is to be able to conveniently rescan the hole again in case of multiple targets.

I carry my 580 even when I go to the mall shopping :P

J/k...
But never md without it.
Like I said in another post...
I may not use it often... but when I need it... I have it.

I used to just probe the ground with a dulled end screwdriver, and did it gently - but still damaged coins. Went to brass probe, which didn't. Then this rocky soil around here really made that method useless. Sometimes tiny relics really look like the dirt they're buried in - making it darned difficult to find.

I picked up a pro pointer and greatly shortened my time expended to recover.

I have a pro pointer and a whites TRX one of them always goes with me

I hunted my 1st six months without one, I then dropped $42 on BH pin pointer. It is a great paper wieight, but a terrible pin pointer. Then I got a Garrett Pro Pointer and have not looked back. I won't hunt without it now. It speed up target recovery which allows for more target retrieval in the time you are hunting.

Luckily my Minelab came with a nice pinpointer as part of a package deal from Kellyco. I truly can't imagine not using it because I have rescanned more plugs and found other goodies while I'm already kneeling.
