What way you are using now for the security of your home and business places in an area where the guns are totally banned.Because there is not a best alternate for the security of home and business other than a gun.

If you have no gun, then you have several options. First is to always be aware of what is around you. It is always best to avoid a battle if possible. Being aware and avoid being an easy target.
Flying insect/wasp spray, the kind that shoots out 20 or so feet, is an awesome weapon. In my opinion, far better than pepper or bear spray.
Bladed weapons are always helpful in assorted lenghts. A baseball bat with 2 or 3 long spikes, sharpened, will help to get your point across also.

I lived in a state that banned guns - I moved to a State that allows you to protect yourself!

guns are not the answer

Guns can be one of the answers. There are many.

I've stocked my property with attack chickens. You may not know the damage a defensive rooster can inflict. I have the scars to prove it.

guns are not the answer

If a person is pointing a firearm at you or your family, with the intention to
kill you or your family, then a firearm IS the answer.

If it's not the answer, please write from heaven (or wherever you went) and let
us know what the answer really is.

guns are not the answer

When someone is kicking in your door at 2am guns is the only answer. Average response time for 911 is over 10 mins.....

Your wife, daughter or granddaughter can be raped in that time, everyone in the home can be murdered before police arrive...

We have a right to defend our families and our lives, on your knees begging for mercy for your family is not a right, defending them is......

The FBI Stats, please:

2,600,000 home invasions 2011
Equals a home invasion every 12 seconds
3.5 million burglaries per year reported
Each year 13% of homes are burglarized
19.2% of rental properties are burglarized per year
85% of all break-ins are through the door
67% of all burglaries involved forcible entry
38% of all assaults occur during a home invasion
60% of all rapes occur during a home invasion
70% of burglaries involve residential properties
Burglaries happen between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Home Invasions happen between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
FBI stats show only 12% - 13% of burglars are ever apprehended. [1]
Hold on to your shorts. From the United States Bureau of Justices Statistics

Titled "Percent distribution of incidents where police came to the victim, by police response time and type of crime":

Crimes of Violence:

Within 5 minutes 31.0%
Within 6 - 10 minutes 24.5%
Within 11 minutes - 1 hour 32.4%
Within 1 day - 6.5%
Longer than 1 day - 1.9%
Time of response not known - 3.6%
Not ascertained - 0.2% [2]
From American Police Beat website: the average of seven same-sized city police response to a High-Priority 911 call is a staggering 11 minutes, 11 seconds. [3]

Before I go further, note neither our national media nor our national crime fighter data takes into account if you are - (1) middle of a heavily populated metropolitan area, (2) in the perimeter urban areas, (3) in suburban areas or (4) you're out there in rural areas.

Makes a difference. Makes a big blankety blank difference.

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke says calling 911 is a bad option and urged Milwaukee residents to arm themselves and take certified firearms classes.

"Personal safety is no longer a spectator sport. I need you in the game."

His political radio spot goes on "With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," Clarke intones.

"You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back."

Clarke said to citizens "so you can defend yourself until we get there."

"You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We're partners now. Can I count on you?"

Proving that (it would appear) government employees fear armed citizens more than anything else,

Roy Felber, president of the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs' Association, said the ad sounded to him like a call to vigilantism.

"That doesn't sound smart," Felber said. "That's why society has police officers." [4]

Deputy*Felber, shut up. You're the one who's not very smart. A home invader, mostly likely a clutch of violent thugs without compassion or normal human attributes can kick a door in, rampage through home (happens 7,000+ times a day) and if they're using Obama approved revolvers with only six rounds per cylinder, how many times can they fire that one weapon in the average police response time of eleven minutes?

Answer - a lot. Depends if the criminal has any dexterity and a modicum of practice. Jerry Miculek set a world record with a Smith and Wesson six round revolver of 12 shots in just under 3 seconds. Three seconds. [5] Now, admittedly he's The Man at this. But I can tell you Mr. Felber in eleven minutes and change criminal thugs in a home invasion can fire all their pistols, revolvers, reload and then go to work with tire irons and brass knuckles, break for tea and cookies and still have time get the big screen out the door and a haul of jewelry and the Justice Department says you'll apprehend this human trash less than 14% of the time.

Seriously, sir. You think free men and women, in a Nation where it is us, free men and women reserving unto ourselves our own God given Right to self-defense is vigilantism? You, Mr. Felber, need a dictionary and a lesson in semantics. And an intensive course in the US Constitution, preferably from Hillsdale College.

Call 911 And Die is a book both probative and startling, especially to those waffling on the issue of self-defense and the 2nd Amendment. Yes, it has its critics but I say nuts to them. Go toe to toe with author and attorney Richard W. Stevens and let's see who wins the fact-based assertions. [6] Decide for yourself. When you believe the mainstream media, when you choose to believe political rhetoric over substance, when emotions rule you instead of common sense, you're a victim. If it's just you, that's your choice. But if you're a parent, guardian, care-giver or otherwise have others in your care and responsibility, circle abrogating the responsibility to protect and defend to government men who on average take eleven minutes to respond is, to sane citizens, such a dereliction of Duty as to be categorized as being as criminal as the violence aimed at you.

You have a duty to protect and defend. You do not have a duty to lie down and take it, or, as the popular saying goes Gun Control is the theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

I side with G. Gordon Liddy. Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. Think about that when you look upon your daughters, your sons, your wife, your husband. Remember, Mr. Felber says you're a vigilante for taking up arms in order to survive until the Police come.

PS - Personally, I think it's better that you know how to fire and reload and fire again in under three seconds rather than the 'bangers. But that's just me.'

There is one conundrum which has always puzzled me; the fact that cities, counties, and states which have banned guns of one type or another, still have laws on the books which give you the right (as if you needed it) to defend yourself.

We all live in an increasing violent society. For example, since moving to Roswell, NM in 2001, the number of murders per capita has increased nearly 400%. It is mainly due to drug thugs killing one another. Unfortunately, there are innocent folks caught between them. I don't want to be one of those.

I do carry mace with me when I hunt, but thankfully I haven't had to use it on dog or man. But I do have a trick up my sleeve. When I'm in a part of town I don't feel comfortable in, I wear my orange vest emblazoned with these words: Bomb Squad!

We don't have gun problems here but I've been in karate for many years and am a 2nd Dan (Ni Dan or 2nd degree).

Will that stuff ignite, like a can of hairspray will, with a lighter? :laughing7:

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away!

If you can't, or are unable or willing, then NO, you should not have a gun. Keep pepper spray handy in several different locations throughout your home.

Pepper spray washes off without lasting effects, should you spray the wrong person. Wasp spray could subject you to some rather ill effects...

Question:

In the places (states, cities, towns) that ban guns- are they 100% gun violence free? Does banning guns keep everyone safe from gun violence? Does it work?

guns are not the answer[/QUOTE.] Well, it's my right to defend my family, myself and my home. Do you think any criminal trying to get what they want will just stop what they are doing while you tell them....Oh you don't need a gun to show force while you stick that piece in my face trying to carjack me. You could just walk up to my car, knock on the window and tell me you want my car and hell.... I'll just give it to you"! Or....while these idiots break into your home at 3-4 in the morning and your children, wife and you are there, you run to them and say " hey, lay that gun down and just help yourself to everything, I'll turn the lights on for you"? NADA. Or when a man has a gun to a woman trying to rape her she says " You don't need that gun if you want to rape me.... just come up to me and tell me you want sex and hell, I'll just dish it out". NOPE. These criminals don't care about anything and just want to get what they want fast. They don't listen to rules, and they surely have not taken any gun safety classes. They know the gun they have intimidates their victims. So pointing a gun back at them does make them think for a second...."Oh crap- what do I do now?" It's not the gun that goes off buy itself, it's the person pulling the trigger. Knowing when and where to pull that trigger. Firearm courses to defend yourself/family etc. No-one has the answers for today's times, but I want to be prepared. Guns will never be taken off the streets and out of criminals hands. And I sure "don't want to take a knife to a gunfight"! It's my right and I aim to use it. I don't live in a fantasy world and think that nothing will every happen like that to me......I try to be prepared as best as I can. Criminals don't care. PERIOD

We don't have gun problems here but I've been in karate for many years and am a 2nd Dan (Ni Dan or 2nd degree).
We Dont have Gun Problems Here??? Which Ontario do you live in? cause in the one I live in I hear about shootings DAILY.
In Response to other comments/questions:
yes you can own a LONG GUN here in Canada With a PAL . If you have a PAL/R Like me, you can have a Hand Gun. Just not Carry. I have a mossberg defender as well as my service rifle for home. like in the U.S if someone unlawfully enters my dwelling.....God have mercy on them...Cause i wont!!.....I CHOOSE to rely over 90% of the time(have Had ample experience)on my H2H CQC Training . Been proven to me time and time again......someone is less than 6ft and pulls a gun on you, you have a better chance with H2H than you do if you draw your piece
Oh yeah, H2H= Hand to Hand. CQC =Close quarters Combat. sure some do know (THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE)......I HOPE most dont.

Guns are but a tool, they are not good or bad in themselves. But they are a very useful tool.....for the elderly, infirm, or weak; it may be the only chance they have to avoid injury, rape or death at the hands of evil.........I do not understand why we should not, why it is wrong to defend yourself or other innocents.........the reason to not have a gun is?????? Guns are not good or bad, people are good or bad. And fact, bad people choose to prey on people.
Now it is true you need to have the right mindset, and some training to have and use a weapon, but I would never deny anybody the right to defend themselves against evil.
For those who would deny weapons, what do you suggest as an alternative, talk nicely?
