I've just finished looking at thousands of photos of Scoville Waterbury buttons....they were a large contractor for all branches of the military, private schools, military schools as well as municipal fire departments and private companies. What yours is I can't say...what I can say is it's probably reasonably rare as there are thousands of buttons with many examples....yours seems to be the only example of that one I'm able to find.

Wow !!! waterbury-scovile eagles head with a 2?and curved lines below.I'm not an expert by no means but I've never seen this front design on any button. And i've been around the block! But the backside companies names have the civil war era written all over them!! I've never found or seen this design illustrated in books or any where,
theres a lot of very knowledgable able to weigh in on this and for sure identify. My guess is that its a rare type which is good!would luv to hear the story,Mucho thanks for sharing. Dont let us down brothers of the T-Net share the expertise!!!
I think the button is being looked at sideways, so no eagles head. Even though found in a Confederate camp site, I think it's unlikely a confederate button with a scovill backmark unless it is southern related and was made pre-war.
I recommend contacting Daniel Binder about this button. You can word search him on the internet by typing "Daniel Binder buttons". I don't want to post a link and possibly risk violating any rules.
