So I went to pick up some bags today, got 1 bag of dimes and 8 bags of pennies..

(7 silver dimes found, kinda weak, but that's besides the point)

At the first bank where I always get treated the best, and pick up the largest volume, they had a bag of halves for the first time in the 6 months I went there.

I asked the teller if I could see it first. She brought it out and showed it to me, I didn't see any silver through the bag so I told her i didnt want it.

She said ok no prob and brought it back... As soon as I got to the car I wanted to kick myself in the face. Its been bothering me all night. Im heading back first thing tomorrow on the way to work to get it

I dump at 3 branches of my CU with exceptional coin counters. These machines are beasts and I always catch myself wanting to know what's in the bags before I dump...but I don't wanna break that other cardinal rule... Don't dump where you buy... I need to find banks with counters to buy bags from... Hmmm....

I'm in the same boat. Or perhaps quit dumping at one I have buddies up with the managers on. Hard to quit a nice place to dump. Dump.

Yeah. I mean don't get me wrong, 3 is better than 0. I guess I was just hoping for a little better results..

Anyway, it's a bank that I get all my bags from, the credit union that I dump at wont sell me bags. I was able to buy a bag at one branch one time, and then the next time I asked, I just about got crucified. I was trying to buy dimes, and I was dumping pennies there so there was no chance of cross contamination.

Some places are just real sketchy about selling bags for some reason. I've got a great thing goin with this bank that hooks me up, I just hope they don't cut me off!

I think it's cause they either think you melt the coins, transfer them to other countries, and it's a pain for the tellers to always record how many boxes you get and on what date

OMG!!, how do I turn spell. Check off for the apple iPad 3

I believe that it is because they know for certain that they are selling you some uncertainty. A bag of halves is on their books for $1000 but it contains something more or less than that. By selling it to you, they risk you coming back and saying that they shorted you $8. They have no way to reconcile that $8.

I always promise that I don't care if its off and I tell them that I don't even intend to count it. I usually only count it if there is a bunch of odd-ball stuff in there. Sometimes that stuff counts as halves, sometimes not. Foreign coins usually count, guitar picks usually count, drink tokens usually count, etc. Smaller coins (nickels, qtrs, cents) sometimes do and sometimes don't.

Yeah I guess. I never go back because i don't want to burn a bridge.

I bought a bag of quarters there a few months back, and there was like "$35" worth of washers in the bag. I was short like 60 bucks total. It was real tough to swallow but in the long run its really not worth going back and ruining the relationship, especially since I usually get a lot of bags there.

Last week I had a penny bag that jammed my reydale 25 times because there were so many nickels dimes and quarters in the bag and I didn't get them out, over 10 bucks worth total.

I won't say it always evens out, but I guess you win some and lose some

Oh my bad... Lol I can't believe you've gotten all that crap mixed in with your coins before. How can these fancy machines be so poor at counting and recognizing coins from guitar picks?

Sometimes the reject stuff goes to the half dollar bag at some banks for some weird reason.

Until now I thought I was the only person who found guitar picks in halves, 3 this year.

I've only found 1 guitar pick. But lately I've found a handful of those plastic clips used on bread bags. They don't appear to be counting as halves but it's weird to get one of those out of a roll.
