"Do you have any old coins or jewelry" plus I have added "or broken gold"

and a lady thought about it and said, we have some of mom's gold teeth :o
They were having a estate sale for their recently departed mother.

There were two crowns, one was all torn up with a little crown cement attached, the other was complete tooth and all. >:( I weighed the torn up crown and doubled the weight to take into consideration the other one and made my offer. She thought it a little low (I bid low not knowing the karet value of crowns) so I gave her my card. Her sister asked for a card too, cause she might have some jewery she wants to sell.

...Dental Gold is 10kt...
That is good to know, thanks. I was thinking 12, knew it could not be higher because gold is so soft.
Looks like my offer was right in line because the crown still attached was bulkier than the other.

I asked my Dentist about the junk gold he takes out of folks' mouths. He said, he saves enough up them send them back 'somewhere' and gets reimbursed for them, by weight. If given you have a good relationship with your Dentist, you could more than likely ask to buy it instead, for a little higher rate, given it's still a deal for you. Chances are great, s/he isn't getting a competitive rate from their 'buyer'.
