I didn’t find gold, it found me

Hit my local beach for the low tide. I detected for about 6hrs and managed to get a tungsten triton ring and about $8 in clad. My wife was tired so she was already making her way back to the car. I stayed behind digging a couple more targets. While I’m digging a target I see a younger couple walking by. A few seconds later the guy is in front of me with his hand out and asks, do you want this? I looked at what he had in his hand and was hesitant to reply because I thought I was getting punked. I thought it over for a second and I replied, if you don’t want it I will take it. He was like, I just found it and I don’t want it and hands it over to me. I said thanks a lot and he left. What he gave me was a 14kt chain that he has just found a friend of mine had told me of stories of people giving him money and whatnot because they saw him detecting and felt sorry thinking he was homeless or something I never thought this would happen to me but it did. Years ago I was detecting the sidewalk in front of an old duplex house and an elderly lady stepped outside and said to me, "you look like a healthy young man, why don't you get a real job". I just replied "you're probably right" and just smiled to myself and kept moving.
