Some of you are aware of my "disappointment" of never finding any silver Halves at any banks anywhere in NJ. Well....

Yesterday morning I went to one of my dump banks to lighten my load before going grocery shopping. The person in front of me didn't notice his coins hitting the reject tube so I scooped them up after my own dumps.

I landed a modern nickel, a $1 bermuda coin, and a stainless steel "good luck" angel coin.

I then stop at the grocery store for a few things and as I was leaving I noticed an Investors Savings Bank that I never noticed before in the strip mall that the grocery store is in. They had just opened for the day so I wandered in and asked them about Halves.

"Someone called the other day asking about Half Dollars..." said the teller.

Uh oh!

"Was that you?", she asked.

"Not me, I was just at the grocery store and figured I'd come in and ask."

She didn't have any but the branch manager did. He asked what I needed them for and I gave the standard response - "for the kids". The teller showed me her gold dollar coins and 1 Susan B. I told her that I "tried to get the kids into those but they prefer the larger coins more."

He brought out 4 $10 rolls and asked how many I wanted. I responded that I'd take them all and if I ration them out well enough those 4 rolls should be enough to satisfy the kids for 1 month or 2.

He seemed to accept that.

In the 4 rolls were alot of 1970's, a couple of newer coins, and...

one 1964 and one 1967 - my very first silver Halves!!!!!!!

WooHoo!!!!!!

I guess that good luck angel coin actually works.

You don't even have to lie (that much). Most likely he was curious to the odd request. You could tell him you have a book that you are trying to fill. Little does he know it is with all silver... I'm honest (for the most part) and it pays off. I ask for halves and if they seam friendly I will see if they have anything old or cool. I have gotten a few Ike's and $2 bills that way. I know they are not worth much over face if anything but if they had something better than I could of gotten it.

I get lucky with that angel token too, maybe I need to start taking them to banks again, I have like 10 from reject trays. I have a gold and silver charm that has given me great luck too (I found it in a reject tray).
