I FOUND IT! My great great great grandfather's homestead!

Ok the best 1st. When searching for family history you want to find a personal item like a ring or something that is labeled , tying it to your ancestor. I find both. My 3rd target of the day was a token with my G, G, Great Grandfathers initials W. P. D. . I called my mom right away and she said there was a store on the property that workers or freed slaves bought supplies at. The 1860 census said there was 12 family members and 21 slaves living there, hmmmmm. My 6th target of the day was the ring with red stone. It's made of copper or brass and probably was a kids or a farm hands. Regardless I was super stoked to pull it out of the ground. I could of not dug anything else today but these 2 items and been extremely happy.

This item I've never seen before. It's lead with iron inside.

Thank you sir. I'll be going back a lot. My main objective is to go back this summer and do some dirt sifting when it dries out.

That's cool. I guess it was common to put your initials on tokens after the Civil War.

I took my mom out to our ancestor's homestead today and we found a few more things. She might be hooked on metal detecting.....

Congratulations, the feeling of home and hearthside is the strongest bond of all, therefore I'm glad to see you have recovered that of your Great, Great, Great Grandfather's, what a solemn and proud feeling it must be to pull those relics from the ground knowing that he possibly, even probably, held or owned them. Great stuff JDug

Day 2 at GGG grandfather's Homestaed

What an AWESOME thread! Way to hunt the 'tough stuff'! Can't believe you have the chance to hunt in your ancestors footsteps. Did you get an opportunity to figure out some of the dates on the coins from your last video? They look like some beauties....

Thank you sir. I couldn't get dates off the larger coppers. The Indian Heads were 1873 & 1876. The coin with 924 in the center was a token from a penny arcade on Park Ave. in DC.ih1.webpih.webp
