I FOUND IT! My great great great grandfather's homestead!

Ok the best 1st. When searching for family history you want to find a personal item like a ring or something that is labeled , tying it to your ancestor. I find both. My 3rd target of the day was a token with my G, G, Great Grandfathers initials W. P. D. . I called my mom right away and she said there was a store on the property that workers or freed slaves bought supplies at. The 1860 census said there was 12 family members and 21 slaves living there, hmmmmm. My 6th target of the day was the ring with red stone. It's made of copper or brass and probably was a kids or a farm hands. Regardless I was super stoked to pull it out of the ground. I could of not dug anything else today but these 2 items and been extremely happy.

This item I've never seen before. It's lead with iron inside.

Dug, "IF" I counted right,,, I'm 12th generation on one side of the family, and 15th on the other. but am going to go through both again.PPC

Any lucky finding anything with your families last name on it? kewl finds you got going on there, look like a hotty spot!! :occasion14:

Well dug,,, Now you went and did it ,,,, you found something with your familys name(token) but now you went and found an item with my ancestors name (from Georgia) My mothers madien name is Purvis,,Melvin Purvis is/was my 3rd or 4th cousin. Also to top it off ,my Grandmother was in the Biograph Theater the night they killed dillinger ,she married my Grandfather ,a Purvis and either 1st or 2nd cousin to Melvin a couple of years later. I have my uncles (my mothers brother) Melvin Purvis badge that my mother gave me when he passed away,it is still gold colored and has all the color,it is different than yours. keep up with the good finds, what a thrill it must be detecting the family homestead !!! HH

That is some really cool history. I hope you have someone to pass your badge onto that will appreciate it. I don't think my daughter will appreciate all the family history I'm digging up .

Dug,No kids of my own to pass it to,but 2 of my nephews are already fightin over it :) Dont count your daughter out yet,in the future she might show more interest.

Awesome finds Jdug...Congrats on finding the family mother mode.

Thank you sir. Whenever I look at that red stone my imagination runs wild, thinking of who it belonged to and what it meant to them.
