I was wading today at a beach I've never done well at but decided to go after the 4Th of July weekend. The water was very rough. my sunglasses were covered with salt water, and I couldn't see the display on the Deus. When I first saw the ring, I thought the color was off and just put it in the pouch thinking it was plated. When I got home, I saw the 21K stamp and almost fell down. Its 5.2 G. I've found 9-10-14-18 and even a monster 24k ring, but no 22k yet. I've never heard of 21.

Won't an XRF just read the surface material?

Yes, but if a ring is electroplated base metal, the surface will likely read close to pure 24k gold, which is an unlikely choice for a full-gold ring because it's rather soft. If it's rolled gold, the exterior plate could be of any purity which may or may not match the 21k marking.

These rings have differences. The ebay listing states 'The gold-finish metal design is distinguished by its links.

This ring has a piece at the bottom compared to the ebay links. Perhaps it is gold?

Yes, the ring I linked to is the women's version, as sold by Dior, which other sources say is gold-plated steel. The OP's ring seems to be a more masculine version, produced as knock-off 'copy'. I'm not sure Dior sold such a ring for men.
I acknowledged that it might well be 21k, as marked, but the ring itself is nevertheless a fake.

Perhaps. But a fake of what? If Dior never made that model it might have nothing to do with faking Dior? Might actually be initials? Not every CD on the planet is about Dior.

Fake in the sense that the seller, or the wearer, would have you believe it came from Dior.

There is more than one issue at play here. Most important is the question of is it really solid 21k?

Easily determined by examining the specific gravity.

Most of the used Dior stuff along this line that you see for sale is obviously warn down to the base metal.

Then we have folks that want to relate it to Dior. I dunno why they feel that is important. Most Dior stuff of this type is not gold. They don't stamp it as such. That brand value doesn't add up to gold value.

If you want to know about 'Dior or not' look to see if it carries a mark like this:

OP? is that on the item?

If it is solid 21k but not Dior, is it somehow a fake? Why would someone want you to believe it is a downgrade?

Mike, can you please take a good look at the backside of the links and that plate?

Thanks!

Nice find for sure :) These people are usually SPOT ON !! GOOD LUCK

There are absolutely no other marks on the ring except the "21K" and the "CD" initials on the front. I'm sure it's not an expensive ring but I'm going to give it to a friend to check what it's made of. No matter what it is it was worth the thrill of finding it and now I'm off for the next adventure! Good luck everyone on your hunts and thank you all for the comments and help with this ring.

**UPDATE, Its real!!! This ring sat in the junk pile for a while; I was almost convinced it was fake because of all the research we all did earlier. I saw about 20 very close versions of this CD (Cristian Dior) ring all were plated none were solid gold. I gave it to a friend to refine, and it turned out to be 21-22K. The result was from a marked 21K 5.2G ring, after refining we had 4.33g of 24K. I use the Dentrix app and the math works out exactly.
