Now i just thought do brinks/garda/ect rotate there coin? Meaning do they ship out coins that have been sitting for long periods of time first before shipping new coins they receive?? Because i wonder if they dont ship out the ones that have been sitting for god knows how long who knows how much silver rich pay dirt that could be? Now my idea was what if we all teamed up and picked up halves/dimes/ect together forcing brinks/garda/ect to utilize both there coin they just got AND the silver rich coins that have been sitting? This could be worth trying we all could set a date and order as many halves/dimes/quarters/ect as possible from a banks that ONLY use garda/brinks.

I see it as stirring the pot. It seems like it would enhance everyone's chances of getting that hidden Ag - if it exists.

If you could do it, you'd be better off going solo. Cash in your IRA, buy $250k in rolled coin, search it, dump it, and get it back into an eligible IRA within the 60 days you are allowed for moving an IRA. Imagine it, 500 boxes of half dollars. That would almost certainly reach the back shelves of most sorting facilities. Just make sure you have the dump arrangements shored up.

Everyone has probably thought about this, but it would be difficult, if not impossible to execute. It's hard enough for me to get 10 of my friends together for dinner, let alone get dozens of people I only know from a message board to put money into something like this. Besides, wouldn't we all have to order from the same area?

I too have thought of cashing in some assets and using the proceeds to search, then store the duds, and continue to order more boxes until I got deeper into the pallets. Not sure how much I'd need to make a dent in the brinks warehouse!

What I'd like to do is get into the warehouse to choose my own boxes!

Theres no way you could possibly get 500 boxes of halves if you wanted if what one bank said is right it would cost them.

$3,750 to order (one bank told me that they would start charging me 7.50 per box) the only possible way i would think would be a federal reserve bank.

you could do it if you took vacation...I did 58 boxes last week and had plenty of spare time and spare coin.

point is, it won't work in any small metro area.

My best boxes right now come from the same bank I have dumped over 300k at in halves since June.

If you are in a major metro area the cash vault has millions maybe 10s of millions in halves.....thinking you have any control over it via mass orders....or marking coins....is just laughable :-)

BOTTOM LINE:

Same as it always has been. Do the most volume you can everyday every week, every month!

For halves, you get 1000 coins per roll. You get 50 rolls in every type of box you buy. The boxes aren't that big at all

After botching the simplest math of the day, I shouldn't tackle this one. But here goes:

A clad half dollar weighs 11.34 grams. There are 20 per roll. There are 50 rolls per box. So, just in coin there is 11.34kg per box (1000 coins times 11.34gm). That is 25lb per box (net). 500 boxes would be 12,500lb + tare. You couldn't take the Mazda to the pick up bank.

More helpful than all these "ideas" would be if somebody knew somebody who knew somebody who knew a guy that worked at Brinks, Garda, Loomis, etc....

To me, hearing actual accounts of how everything works with regard to coin processing and distribution (and other insider stuff) would be infinitely more beneficial than all our guesses.

With the amount of people here I cant believe that no one knows such a person.

Cards, your right, only a couple degrees of separation. I know people who work at banks, sorry, don't know anyone at Brinks or Loomis.

I don't personally know anyone at Brinks but I did have the opportunity to speak to the operations manager of one of the cash processing centers for Los Angeles (he said there were 3). I have discussed this in other posts but the main things I learned from him were. Keep in mind for smaller areas or different cities the procedures may be different, this is for Los Angeles and probably most major metro areas follow a similiar style.

1. They do not cull silver. It is against the law since they do not own the cash they are simply processing/counting/transporting/vaulting for their customers.

2. They do not co-mingle money from one account to another. I.E. bank to bank, each bank chain has its own separate cash vault within the mega vault processing center.

3. You cannot order and pick up at the processing center via a "will call" style, I had inquired about this mainly for pennies :-)

4. adding on to #2, if the WF cash vault needed more halves brinks would get them in bulk from the Fed and then wrap them at their center, they would not come from another banks vault within their vault. I.E. as stated in #2 they do not co-mingle.

It's not a complete insiders info but hopefully it helps answer some questions!

Bigheed, if i'm reading you correctly, 2 different bank chains(say Wells Fargo and Chase bank) in the same town both receive Loomis boxes. They each get them from a different vault at the center? If that's the case, it would explain a lot.

good idea CnC, i tottaly forgot that i have a friend from high school that works for Gaurda. ill have to ask him some questions next time he comes in to order pizza.

I spoke with a guy who manages a Brinks "warehouse". He said no pallets are over 2 years old in most. Once in a while they have to make emergency purchases from others and that is when you make luck out but otherwise, no such luck.
